After reading Wyv3ern's thread about the bulk packed XM193 PD I opened and started sorting my recent delivery.  Some rounds were not that bad, so they went to the Maybe pile, a couple were so bad that they were set aside as the "never shoot" rounds.  One of which was a round that wasnot seated all the way.  the round was out so far that it was easily pulled by hand, so I dumped it out on a white sheet of paper.  After dumping the powder, there was something else in there which at the time I thought was a clump of powder grains.  When I finally got it out, I was really surprised.  No wonder the bullet wouldn't seat.

I was't sure what it was at first, but I snapped it it half and it had the texture and look of a pretzel stick (I was'nt going to taste it to see).
I am affraid to shoot this ammo now, who knows what else is in it? Anybody else find wierd things inside their ammo?

experimental multiple projectile round?

Maybe a way to deliver food really fast?  Shoot the enemy until they're too fat to attack you again

Well there goes the claims that this stuff is anywhere near as good as the boxed stuff.

My reaction exactly!

I'm almost shure it is a pretzel stick, so how in the hell does a pretzel get into ammo?  What would have happened if i tried to shoot it?  It's bad enough that I have to hand sort each of 1000 rounds to find which are good and which aren't, I could have bought twice as much Wolf for the price I paid.

Normally a pretzel stick has grains of salt on the outside, not gun powder...

Man, I was going to try it out and sort the bad stuff out, but that's pretty disturbing.  I mean just damn.

WHAT THE FUCK?!?!

I'm pissed.  That and the dangerously set back rounds are TOTALLY unnacceptable, but atleast you could identify the set-back rounds.  And don't try to remind me that he ID'd the bad round because it wasn't seated, the foreign object could've been shorter.  Man I am seething.  Had that been something harder than a prezel and you shot it you could be trying to count how many fingers you have left with one eye right now.  Federal better come up with some fucking answers, RIGHT NOW.

Well it's obviously there to slow the rapid expansion of gasses causing a reduced muzzle report.
next best thing to a supressor if you ask me....

I guess the question now is what to do about it?  I have no issues with the vendor and will  continue to do buisiness there.   Federal, however has some explaining to do.  It's more of a safety issue that just getting some crappy rounds in the mix.

Someone had to deliberately place that inside the case.  I cannot see how it could have gotten there any other manner.  THAT is disturbing.  This ammo could likely be used to defend someones life....that is upsetting.

If you are really serious about this as others here are, you should take this thru the motions officially.  That way you can be sure to get an explanation instead of a general reply.  Finding a foreign object inside the round is disturbing to say the least.

Ok, I am now 99.9% sure that it is a pretzel stick, which leaves out accidental placement in said round (unless they also make pretzels in the same machines).  I am beginning to think sabotage here.  Can anyone point me in the right direction as far as contact info?  I went to the Federal website and just about got lost.

Does anyone have an idea what would have happened if this round had been fired?

What would happen if you had fired the Pretzel round?

Would there have been enough powder to lodge the bullet in the bore? What happens to the pretzel?

There have been a few other comments about others who have found rounds in their mix that are out of the ordinary.  Can someone else check theirs to see what's inside?

I guess I'm going to have to go thru mine.  I have 5 unopened cases.

Maybe they'll ask for the ammo back and exchange it all.

I think at best it would have misfired lodging a bullet in the bore or not fired at all!!!But it definately looks like a pretzel and I dont think that was an accident..I would call homeland security and tell them you got a hot one,, er well maybe not so hothinking.gifSend the whole batch in to get checked out..Makes me wanna check all my discount fed stuff real close  ,,,thanks for the headsup!!!
