I just got a YHM flip up front sight. It is the bolt on kind. 3 pieces and 4 screws.

My questions are:

What size punch do I use to drive out the pins holding the original front site on the barrel?

What size punch do I need to drive the roll pin out holding the gas tube?

Do I need a need pin for the gas tube?

Finally how do I ensure the new front sight is 100% straight and aligned with the hole in the tope of the barrel? (No pins holding it in place just four allen head screws)

Or should I say "F" it and have a smith do it for me.

PS.
I can not find my Marine Corps M16 Guide so thats why all the lame questions.

I've never installed a YHM flip up front sight, so I'll leave those details for others to explain.

To remove your original taper pins, drive them out from left to right, which is the same direction your pivot and takedown pins come out. Use a 3/32" nail set (found at home improvement stores) to do this, as it has a concave end which fits the head of a taper pin perfectly. Support the front sight base well. The hammer doesn't have to be huge--I use a 16 ounce ballpeen. You might have to soak the pins in Kroil if they are stubborn. Once they are loose, tap them out with a 1/8" pin punch. The gas tube pin is removed with a 1/16" pin punch.
