dpms has a normal front sight for a bull barrel with set screws. or they have it in a smaller diameter that you could get enlarged. or use a normal front sight with pins. or a railed front sight base, with set screws, and a clamp on front sight. i was thinking similiar, i like the full length tube. this ones my favorite (photo courtesy of D & L sports, inc).

We need more information on your barrel.
Does it have dual gas block seats? If so, then you can use either a flip-up from either PRI or YHM and they just clamp on. You can also pin or setscrew attach a standard front sight base. Front sight bases come un-drilled, as-in they will not have holes for taper pins. The taper pin holes get drilled and reamed through the FSB and barrel as an assembly. If your barrel does NOT have dual gas block seats, then it's likely to measure around 0.730" to 0.740" out in front of the gas block. You are not likely to get a front sight base to fit. You need a dedicated gas block seat machined on the barrel to place a front sight on it. In the drawing below, barrels #3, #4 and #6 have two gas block seats.  |

The barrel does not have two gas block seats. It is 0.740 where I am looking to add the standard FSB. I can't seem to find the one that DPMS offers. I think that I may go the route of having a smaller one enlarged. Who can do this?

You could always install a sight, flip up or not, on the very front of your free float.

DPMS offers a regular 0.750" undrilled FSB and a 0.936" setscrew attached FSB. I don't think they have a 0.625 version, but I did not look so I don't really know for sure. I have never tried it, but I don't think a 0.625" FSB could be opened all the way to 0.740" without breaking in half. I don't have one here to measure. Another alternative would be to re-profile the front section of the barrel to accept a 0.625" FSB. That I could handle for you. At 0.740", you may consider getting some 0.005" shim stock and trying to setscrew attach a regular 0.750" FSB. It's not optimum, but it might be completely serviceable. |

heres a link to the .625 that you can get drilled out. call them about it since it is just mentioned on the website. since your barrel is .740, i would just get a normal .750 front sight, remove the bayo lug and swivel, drill and tap holes for set screws. may be hard to line it up and dimple the barrel, but thats what id do. im not a gunsmith though, randall is. |
