I just can't justify the cost of an EOTech for my purposes (blasting targets and beer cans).
Anyone had any experience with either the Barska or BEC sights (both being sold by Sportsmans Guide for $63)?
Or, how about the Hakko BED sights or the ATN, both costing about $150-160?

If I were you, I'd avoid Barska...

My neighbor had their 50mm red dot and after a few weeks to the range, it won't turn on and he heard a rattling sound inside

Go Eotech or go home.

What about a Holosight?

How are those compared to EOtech's?

Ah!

So how are they compared to EOtech's line of sights? After all, their made by the same company

Here's my venture into "bargain" optics.

Atop a superlight 4 lb carbon 15, and just tipped out of my safe.

The result?

A Holosight is a bargain EoTech...if you can get dealer pricing from Midway's (FFL or C&R license), they're around $225. That's a great deal, and the Bushnell will do fine as long as you don't abuse it...it doesn't have the metal hood over it that EoTechs do.

I've got one, and I really like it. I know that budgets can be smaller than what we'd like, but I'd suggest you try and save the extra $ to at least get a Holosight over the other things you're looking at.

If you just want a red dot, it looks like *most* people are happy with their TacPoints...I didn't read the entire 30 page thread, but you might want to check it out. That can be had for as little as $88 from vendors in the EE.

A $30 BSA will work...lots of folks have used those, myself included. No telling how long one of those will last under heavy use, I've never really had mine on any gun for more than 100 rounds or so. So far so good, and it *was* on an FAL for a while.

Not sure about Barska, but BEC is only one notch above Leapers in the pantheon of Chinese cheapness.

Thanks for the input, guys. I kinda suspected that the "reflective technology" sights would be somewhat fragile. (Very fragile??)

Supposedly, Bushnell is coming out with a new model of Holosight that's supposed to hit the channel around the end of this month, according to Midway.

It's should sell for around $199, iirc, and it's called the XLP. The design looks kinda cool, but it's hard to tell from the pic what the sight picture will look like.

here's a linky:
