One would probably have to be a nice 16" M4 style shorty. Would you go for a 20" for the larger? 24" varminter? How would you configure each one? |
I would choose a M4 A3 and a 20" A2. The best of both worlds!
14.5" M4 - FF, VFG, 2 stage trigger, BUIS, Aimpoint, can
20" SAM-R - H-bar or BULL BBL, FF, 2 stage trigger, BUIS, Nightforce 3.5-15X50 (or other high power optic) My $0.02 IO1 |

Well....
AR #1: Here is a Link to It this rifle will handle 90% of anything i may need a rifle for... from 0-300m... but for those once in a limetime longer range shots.. below AR #2: Something along the lines of this still in research mode.. but something along the longs of a 16-18in vortex... etc etc... SS barrel.... LR optics.... i'll use the same lower as my other rifle... magpul stock is the best stock for an anything AR... i would perfer to have this rifle in 6.8 or 6.5... but i'm not a reloader so until 6.8 acually arrives at my store... i'm content with 77gr 223... if i go 223 i'm going to concentrate the build more as an accurate rifle.. since the power of 223 is < 6.X i'm going to have to make up for it with great accuracy... which means of heavier accurate barrel.... which means it'll take on the form of a more east coast-ish weapon if 6.8 gets released buy the time i'm ready for this upper... i won't hav to put as much into it to make it a pin point accurate rifle... so it may take on the form of a west coast-ish weapon |

First one would definitely be the gun I already have now. It is an M4 style (16 inch barrel w/ screw on A2 flash hider), 6 position collapsible stock, flip-up front and rear sights, and a Trijicon TriPower with throw lever mount. It also has a free floating quad rail handguard and a Tango Down pistol grip.
My other AR rifle would definitely be a 24" stainless varminter rifle with FF handguards, Harris bipod, and a 6-24X scope. This would be my "reach-out-and-touch-someone" rifle. Wes |

20" A2 HBAR fixed stock for me
16" HBAR w/ collapsible stock for Mrs. Wedge Both 1:9 twist, both chrome lined chamber and barrel, both with gooseneck mounts and aimpoints, both with A2 flash hiders. eta - I am a simple man. |
You're not fooling anyone here, Mrs. Wedge, ya right. |
I had no doubt that there was a Mrs. Wedge, but saying a rifle is hers - come on.............. I have the SPR and my wife has the M4, ya, that's it. |

<whispering>the collapsible stock is on there so that I can shoot it too. Her arms are not as long as mine<whispering> |

My current build is a 24" Krieger, full float tube, Megga upper and lower, A 2 Stock, 10x40 x50 scope.
next one will be a M4gery open sights, collapsible buttt stock, 14" barrel toter gun. |
Well lets see the first AR would have to be completely removed of all civilization, razorwired and baricaded for my personal use.
The other AR would be left as is...id say..I mean what else would you do with an EXTRA Arkansas??hinking.gif Heavy #2) 16" 9mm Custom Ameetec A3 with the VM HY-TECH mag adapter and Aimpoint CompM2 hats....Come on i only had a choice of 2! |
1. Closest possible to M4 for civy.
2. Same, but with 1:9 barrell |
I guess the implication here is that there's so many cool ways to make an AR, you can't just have one. As for me, I'd have to pick: My big fat heavy AR-10(T) in .308, 24-in barrel, w/ harris bipod, SWS quad rail FF tube, Leupold LR/T scope, and other misc mods The mostly Bushmaster post-post-ban flattop 14.5-in M4gery that I'm still in the process of procuring and putting together, with an Eotech, GGG BUIS, and welded on Gemtech flash suppressor to make it 16" legal, and the M4-96D sound suppressor that will eventually be on it. |
Same basic thoughts here, with just some slight variations on accessories. |
My 20" Bushy is being converted into an SPR: Leupold VariX-III 4.5x14x40mm in an Armalite one-piece mount with a JP Enterprises FCG, ACE stock, bull barrel turned down under the hand guards w/a Harris bipod on the way. Soon to arrive is a Colt LE6920, which will have an ACOG TA31 mounted to the removable CH. |
Sooner or later Lumpy will be along and he'll post the pic of the most sensible two-gun collection of anyone on this site.
I might opt for an SPR/SAMish upper for the lower that's on my current M4 project. Only thing I'd add is that everyone needs a cheap-ass throw-away AR to keep in the truck/car. The one I'm putting together is going to be very interesting, and unlike anyone else's I've ever seen. |
I'm gonn do the next best thing: my brothers buying the short one, I'm gonna get the long one. 5.56 and 6.8, when that becomes available. |

Hmmm... two of the following:
16" medium contour 1/7 chrome-lined 4150 barrel (mid-length gas system) good quality flattop upper w/Colt bolt carrier group good quality lower with stock trigger control group and KAC FCG pins Mid-length URX II w/ textured Magpul coyote panels Sierra Precision grip (maybe Magpul MIAD when it comes out) Magpul M93A (coyote) PRI Gasbuster Troy folding front and rear (first carbine) Troy folding front w/ KAC 600m (second) KAC QD Comp Surefire 952 w/ clickie tailcap, thumbscrew CQB coyote MOUT sling (first carbine) Turner 1907 brown sling with KAC QD sling swivels (second) 1x KAC SOPMOD II suppressor 1x Aimpoint M2 in Larue mount 1x TA11 ACOG in Larue mount 1x Harris bipod 1x TangoDown vert grip 1x AN/PVS-14 1x PEQ-2 That should about do it... in the meantime I'll have to get by with this old dinosaur |
That's the problem with you, BR, you do everything half-assed.
I would have a set up like one of the m4 shown here probably with an aimpoint. Number 2 would have to be a little larger round for some long range effectiveness like a 20" 308 or maybe a 16'' or 18'' 6.8 with a leupold mark 4 and bipod.
Bushmaster lower, Colt M4 stock, Colt M4A3 upper, 16" 1/7, knight's RIS, tango down vert grip, Aimpoint M2 on arms 22M68 with extension, arms 40 buis, hogue soft grip
X 2!! |
Bushmaster lower, Colt M4 stock, Colt M4A3 upper, 16" 1/7, knight's RIS, tango down vert grip, Aimpoint M2 on arms 22M68 with extension, arms 40 buis, hogue soft grip
X 2!! no long range rifle with a variable scop? |
Colt Government Carbine A2 for KISS and an as yet to be determined configuration 20 inch SPR, based on A4 HB Competition upper on A2 lower, with Gov't A2 upper kept in reserve.
Lonny |

M4 clone
M16A4 clone I'm not worried enough about MOA and half inch groups for SPRs and 10x optics. |
Hmm
#1: a 16 inch 1 in 7 Chrome Lined M4gery with an Aimpoint, FF railed HG, surefire, and while we're at it, a 203. #2: SPR in 6.8 SPC |
Underdog, that will only fly if the rest are M16s |
+1 |
+1 and add an Aimpoint to the M4 |
Then what's up with the second AR in the picture?!?!?! |
I already have one. It is a newly "Pre-Clintonized" 20" Bushy.
My next is already in the funding process. It will be a CMMG MOD4. I want to obtain the base weapons, then I will decide on the options. |
Tricked out M4gery and a simple plain jane 20" gov't profile A2
+1 I love plain jane gov't profile A2s |
M4gery and A4gery (which is what I have now, except RAS on both)
First off I think this is a very good thread, made me think a little too hard about what I would need instead of want in only two rifles.
1-14.5" M4, LMT BUIS, Aimpoint, somesort of freefloat handguards. (I already have this one) 2- 18" SPR type rifle |
