going to build a AR, lets say with a telescoping stock, which manufacturer would you use for a lower reciever. Not so much worried about the stock as the reciever itself.

Just about any name brand will work.  Personlly I have one on a cmmg, oly and soon to be on a dpms.  The first two work well and I will let you know about the dpms in a couple of days.

all though always a issue...i dont consider it one for the sake of this question. Now Im not going to spend 10,000 on a preban lower or anything. I own a few of these guns and have the ability to use  FA at work but dont often. Im just trying to build a reasonably good AR.

LMT is a good choise.

yeah I was just looking at them. They look like well made pieces. I guess a better question is what makes a lower reciever better.

Lowers I have had luck with in the past:
RRA
COLT
Armalite

I have heard nothing but negative stuff about DPMS but, I have no expierence with them, or Oly, or Bushmaster.

I know these kind of things are discussed all the time but I am trying to figure out why people like certain lowers....The reasons...Once again so I can make a informed purcahse.

All the lowers are about the same. I would recomend CMMG, Stag, Bushmaster, LMT ,Colt (if you can find one), RRA etc. Stay away from anything from Oly, Vulcan/Hesse or the Carbon 15 line from bushie. Sun Divel makes a very nice Billet lower. If you can find one.

Stay with a MIL spec lower that way you will have no stock fitting problems. Busy RRA and DPMS I beleive all three of those companys don't use a MIL spec lower.

It's pending Bull.  This is my first build, and I'm the kind of knucklehead who learns best with his hands.  I felt the build would give me a better understanding of the mechanical function of the rifle overall, so I went ahead & assembled the trigger assy.  When Stickman gets more Timney's instock I'm swapping them out -Shark

SB,

Shark's holding out on the Timney until he sells that kidney of his (Ebay has the highest bid at $2.50...).

Awesome build he's got goin' there.

I'm holding off for POF's .308...still waiting.

Care to elaborate? I am not aware of any company that sells a "milspec lower" to the public. Nor am I aware of any potential problems with Bushy, DPMS or RRA acomadating milspec stocks.

On topic, I'd get a RRA lower with a NM 2 stage trigger. It should acomidate any stock you want at a resonable price.

I think what he's saying is that true Mil-Spec lowers are cut for select-fire (ie- burst-fire or FA), not just interchange ability w/ other uppers.
Or something like that?

What I'm saying is that sellers use the "its mil spec" to sell shit that isnt "mil-spec". It's a term newbies get caught up in because they dont understand what it is.

Mil spec is damn sure not a billet lower with a non-removale trigger guard.

FWIW the POF lowers they label MIL-SPEC are in the middle of the page WITH the removable trigger guard.  As far as being billet influencing whether it is MIL-SPEC quality or not is for someone a lot smarter than me to debate.
