Hey guys-if you couldn't own an AR, what rifle would you buy (let's exclude AKs for the moment, just to make it more interesting)? And let's say it can cost no more than $1000-$1500. Throw me some ideas folks.......

I got my Polytech M14 for $600

Of the other rifles, even ones I've never handled, I would take the FN ARM-L.

I like something with a little more oomph, but now I like the 6.8 for an AR carbine.

.308 = FAL

7.62x39 = AK

.223/5.56 = SIG556

That should cover it i guess...

In terms of weapons already available, a FAL or an AK.

in terms of what might be available, a SCAR L or H, IF it is actually a reliable weapon.  No one can really say one way or the other yet.
