If you live in Florida, it shouldn't be a big deal for you. Pay the extra $200 for the stamp and you are good to go.

There is more paperwork than the IRS has. The easiest way will be to call around and find a "class 3 dealer" and they will be more than happy to walk you through it if you buy it from them.
I'm familiar with the procedures for full auto and suppressors not SBR's (short barreled rifle) Wish I could help ya more. |

Seriously, it sounds easy and can be, but the administrative hassles, time, and overall inconvenience puts many people off It is the same process you go through for full-auto (machine gun) and silencer purchases. Specific information on the How-to's here I got my SBR approved and in-hand after a mere 45 days once the gun was local. That part took 6 months..

I did the above project in about 4 weeks. The application was approved and back to me in less then 3 weeks. I built it myself. Go to the ATF's website and you can download the forms. It's not as hard as everyone makes it out to be.

Actually the procedure is very easy once you have seen it done. You will find all the info you need in the C3 forum. I have 2 SBR's. The first took place during the NFA office move from WA to WV and took almost 7 months for approval. The second one took 2 months exactly, mailbox to mailbox.

 How do you go about building one? As in what order on parts, paper work, assembly?

Money man, money. You can usually build a nice rifle for 3-400 less than you can buy the same one for.
