Try the 458 SOCOM. Tons of fun.[heavy]
Tony built one for me, it works great!

.300 Whisper

Same Brl'd upper will use both heavy subsonic loads and medium weight supersonic loads. existing mags work at their full capcity.  Same bolt carriere group as you use for your .223 upper.

Ballistically, it's not quite up to 7.62 standards. But way better than 7.62x39mm ballistics.

Many memebers of HHI have taken African big game animals with the .300Whisper fired from Thompson Contender handguns.

You can get uppers from SSK or Olympic Arms.  Loaded ammo from Corbon amoung others.

WSMC667,
Loaded ammo for 458 SOCOM is now available from Corbon. Not cheap, though. The last box I bought was around $30 per 20 rds.
Pardon my "puter dumb" self...how do you enter links properly?

OLYARMS has the .243WSSM upper, that round sighted about 2.25inches high at 100yds is approx 4inches low at 400yds.

Why use an ACOG? that round probably drops 18inches at 500yds, maybe 52inches at 600yds. Makes holdover pretty simple. A good scope with mildots would probably compensate well out to 600yds with no ajustment.

Hi Dave, Cabella's has (had?) 50AE for $19. plus, as "cool" as SOCOM sounds, they still shot the 50ae through the 707 windshield. [BD]

about the link... ever click on the "board code" button when replying to a message?

here's how to do a link, but you have to take out the spaces:
