Hey,

I poke around these boards oftend, how ever, I don't waist your time too oftend with my .02 cents.   I would like to bring the full weight of the boards to bear on a question that I have.

Who will fill a custom rifle order for a reasonable price?   I have asked several companies so far, but no takers yet.

  Rifle Specs;

Rock River A3 flattop upper
Rock River lower
ARMS #50 Mil-Version
ARMS #40 Std-A2
PRI flip front sight
16" Chrome lined barrel (no barrel cuts for the M203)
Phantom flashhider
Rubbery HK style pistol grip (Ergo or Ambi Suregrip)
Vltor Telestock (with battery tubes)
Tango Down vertical grip

Did you ask Pete_in_NH?

Yes,  he has typed to me, that he doesn't stock PRI stuff any longer.   I have not called him, as he requested, so that he could explain or offer alternatives.

I have my little heart set on a PRI flip front sight.   Out side of the ARMS #50 MV, PRI / ARMS BUIS and the flash hider...  this is going to be a fairly bone stock RRA M4-gery.

You can "build" most of it yourself.

Any man who can call himself a man can build an AR15.  I have full faith in you.  Build it yourself and you will be pleased.  If you don't want to shell out the money for the blocks and barrel wrench at least build the lower and buy a complete upper.  You will only need tools you should already have for the lower.  Myself or tons of others on the board are here to help.

What you described is a JTAC specialty.  JTAC has built me two rifles now and is freaking awesome.  He has every part you listed.  You can IM him from this site and look him up on the Industry section or go to his website.....   www.jtacsupply.com  Tell him I sent you.  You won't be sorry.

Thank you all.

The Tango Down is not a problem, there are other Vertical grips.  I am how ever set on the SIR, the PRI / ARMS BUIS, RRA 16" set up.

Yes, I could build it myself.

It sounds like it will be a very nice carbine.  But hardly what I'd call 'bone stock' especially as you want to add the PRI front sight.

BTW you realize you can't even start on this project till after the ban ends?

No reason why not if he doesn't actually attach the lower to the upper, or to be absolutely safe, just gets the upper together.

Your going to have an issue with the SIR and the TD VG (as they won't fit together)..

I did not know that, but more importantly, why not?

...the CQD VG is really the only other one (of high quality) that will fit correctly onto the SIR's rail.

Ok, does any one have an image they can post, showing the CQD VG ?

I hope the "Anti-american" `94 Clinton  Crime bill / gun ban does sunset.  I am going put my order in earlier than 13 Sept 04, but I can have it shipped after the ban sets.  If by some act of Saintan the bill does not die...  I can make changes to my order.   Who knows, may be, I'll invest in a Remington 700 in .308 and a really good scope if the ban does not set..........

I'll let the "Bone stock" remark pass by, since I am not mounting a match grade stainless steel 1/4 MOA barrel to the spec list.

If you need a lower just build it yourself and slap a JTAC upper on it.

Grant,

Why did TD stop making the rails for the SIR?

MSTN
WHY A ROCK RIVER AND NOT A LEWIS MACHINE & TOOL?

WES

Well, I do not have a really good reason.  I have used Bushmaster, Rock River, and Colt AR15s in various different styles.  They are all top quality rifles.  I won't buy a Colt, for childish reasons... non-standard pins.  I will not buy a Bushmaster, for childish reasons, I don't like the snake logo...  How ever, I have always thought that the finish on the Rock River rifles was "smoother" or more uniform than others.   I have never used any thing from LMT.  So when you look at it, it is a cosmetic choice. (no pun intended).

I think the biggest reason is that the local Gun Store handles Rock River stuff.

Thank you all, for your input.  I am still undesided.  I may build it my self.  I'm more than ready....  I have my very own AR15 Gunsmithing Video.

How ever, I did not know that some of the parts used in the construction of the rifle are concrete soluble.

If you don't understand, watch the video......

I would be very happy if you folks could post LARGE pictures of the ARMS #50, and also the ARMS #58 and any Pro's or Con's to a mid-length over a carbine length fore grip.   I will be using a 16 inch barrel, and I want to see the difference between the two.

Thank you again for all your help.

I think it is a good idea for you to build it yourself! I would however recommend finding someone with the ARMS #50/#58 and trying it out. I find them heavy and expensive....

C4

Heavy is not so good....

How ever, I want a Free Float tube, that is not a pain in the butt to remove for cleaning.  Any suggestions?

Take a look at the TROY MRF series (cheaper and you can remove the lower section for cleaning)...

Ditto on the Troy - very easy to remove the lower section but when its 'locked' in place it's very solid.

It's also to spec and the Tango Down VFG works just fine on it (I've got a TD-VFG on my MRF-R)
