Make a copy of the guys drivers license and make a simple bill of sale stating what you sold him and when. That will do it.

I wouldn't buy a gun FTF from anybody who wanted a photocopy of my DL, or any other written record for that matter.

A friend of mine is giving me a Taraus 357mag 6 shot, nickel w/6" barrel. He is NOT a gun person & I want him to know nothing will come back on him... For any reason.

There is no federal requirement for documenting the "exchange" (sold, given, donated, gifted, whatever) of a firearm of any kind between persons. Same for Florida, as far as I know. If you two know each other and you, as the receiver, are not prohibited by federal or state law to "possess" firearms, then there is no issue. If he wants a "document" for his "peace of mind" (typical damn liberal) then, as previously posted, write up a "Bill of Sale" for $.01 and list the particulars of the firearm (serial number, Make, Model, caliber, barrel length, etc) and give it to him along with the penny.
 ETA: FWIW, you couldn't even call in a NCIS request to the Federal Clearance Center since the first thing one must provide is an FFL (Federal Firearms License) number since only sales from FFL Dealers are required to be cleared. |

I would check with your state to see if they require any paper work. Other wise just a bill of sale should do it.hug.gif

It's a beautiful thing. Walk into any GS or Show & w/my CWP, walk out with anything I want except Class 3. By the way, it fell from a 40' tree stand, bounced down a ravine & into a creek. Bent the cylinder yoke & pin. No one wants to repair it. Called my friend who works for Taurus in "They-Ami", he said ship it in att: him & he'll fix it, tweak it & ship it back... N/C!!! I know in PA rifles no papper work, but pistols are another story. Go to a local FFL and do the transfer there. Around here transfer for a pistol is 15 to 20 bucks.
Might a federal law or just state I do not know. |

Florida is a free state.
I have sold firearms FTF a couple of times. Most I do is asimple bill of sale as suggested here. Nothing more. |

Ohio is pretty cool. Some cities have dickhead laws, but we are fixing to cancel them with a state firearms law preemption act.

I always do a bill of sale, want a paper trail in case it comes back to me, if buyer balks, they can go to a local gun shop and pay the $25-30 fee to them for the transfer. You may know the buyer now, but they have the right to sell the gun later on to someone you dont know, and that buyer can do the same...best to CYA

My point exactly. I just wanted a paper trail that the gun belongs to be. I NEVER want to her from a cop '... Ya know this gun is listed as stolen?' We just did a very simple xfer stating names, model serial # & discription and both signed it.Good enough for both of us. Thanks guys, David |
