[ARCHIVED THREAD] - I love the smell of M855 in the morning!

I had finished my time with the Army in 05, I hadn't shot any mil-spec ammo since. Well today I got a chance to go out and shoot some Q3269 M855 and was reminded instantly of my time on the range and Iraq once the smell of the powder burning hit my nose. I have to say, I love that smell. The ammo I have been shooting lately isn't near as good or smell as good. ie, AE & Rem UMC. I have gotta get some more M855. All I have is a 100 rds. I had been shooting 55gr for so long I forgot what 62gr was like. Now I gotta get rid of 1000 rds of UMC to buy some M855. My local gun store has about 20 boxes left @ $8.99ea.

Am I the only guy who likes that smell?

M855 is good but as a machinegunner I prefer the smell of a hot M240 (burnt gunpowder and CLP)

EDIT: For burnt Corporals.

You do know you can have ammunition delivered to your house, just order it on line in bulk unless you can find a better deal locally.

Speaking of that, I just looked around a little for some M855 and almost soiled myself. That shit is rediculous. Gunbroker has some as well, but I would have to donate some marrow and sell a kidney.

You will shit you self buying ammunition in almost any caliber now days. When you find a price you can live with buy as much as you can justify and afford.

I just picked up two 500 round cases of Q3269 M855 from www.gilbertsguns.com for $250 a case. It will deliver to my door on the 10th. Not the greatest deal but I got a break on shipping charge.

I hope they gave you a break of some kind after spending $500.00 on a 1000 rds.

No no no... The M240's round when fired is designated the M24-7!!! And when fired, it smells just fine.

I just can't bring myself to spend that kind of money. I really want to, but that much money can buy a lot of other things or more guns. Dang, this ammo stuff SUCKS!

Maybe I can buy a keg of WC844 and reload to mil-spec. Does anone have any load data for WC844 and 62gr bullet? I looked at hodgdon and they don't have the 62 listed and their data is for .223 not 5.56.

I don't know about the smell of a burnt Corporal (CPL)... CLP (Break Free) probably smells better.

HA good catch Njanear! I did mean CLP but I did burn myself on a 240 when I was a CPL. I know it didnt feel to good but I wasnt really thinking about the smell.
