AHHH!!!
I just scratched my BRAND NEW AR right across the logo side of the lower! Metal is showing beneath the scratch VERY prominently. What do I do?!?!?

Seriously, I wouldn't worry about it. If it bothers you that much, refinish it. No big deal.

I scratched my duracoated pimp AR like that, ferget about it.

Please don't suggest getting it refinished like some other member did a while back when he dropped his. Like in the post above...it is a tool. Yeah it sucks but unless you're trying to keep it in like new condition to sell it later...leave it be.

Birchwood-Casey paint touch-up paint pens. In flat or gloss, avaiable from Brownell's, Bushmaster and probably your local gun shop.

No, it's not a show piece, but it only has 160 rounds through it. It's still a baby.
 I just want to make sure the scratch won't cause any problems with the finish besides cosmetic looks. How well do those "super black touch-up" pens work on an AR? |

I'm actually trying to change out the factory latch with a PRI charging handle latch.
I don't have a 1/16" punch. Any ideas on how to do this a different way? |

That won't stand out too much..... Try using CLP and it will probably come off. If you are really brave, post a picture so we can see what you are making a big deal of. |

I managed to scratch a lower putting in the bolt release pin. used a cold blue pen I picked up at Walmart, and it disappeared.

Touch up pens blow. Use Aluma Black, Aluma Hyde, or whatever they call it. It oxidizes the aluminum and turns it black. Other than reparkerizing, I think it is the best you will get. |

Drag it behind a pickup for awhile, throw some dirt on it, maybe use the shit out of it. Drop in on concrete a few times. You'll hardly even notice that first scratch, and your rifle will thank you. Chicks dig scars, AR owners like thier rifles to look like they've been there and done that.

I can't see the pictures yet......
I've used a finishing nail, but yes, Wallyworld usually has a nail punch or standard punch set that will help. If you use a thin nail punch, remember that it has a taper, and pounding it too hard can make things bad. |

Get a small finishing nail. Also for the scratch get some Aluminum Black. Wal Mart may carry it still. Just degrease teh scartched area and use a Q-tip etc. to put some on the scratched area only.

I'm going to purchase a punch set ASAP after this ordeal this evening.
I left the original roll pin in and just tapped it back in with the PRI latch. It seems to function just fine now. I'll have to pick up something to cover that lovely scratch tomorrow.

No. Because I know that my original post was full of the emotion of the moment. I can't even feel the scratch with my finger. It's a whitish colored scratch from the corner of an AR mag. What do you all recommend to clean it up?
I tried CLP already, but I just wiped it on and then off. Would it help if I let CLP sit on there a bit? |
