Looks like when they ran low on waffle mags, they tried using G-3 mags.

I have seen many aluminum parts replacement parts that were made for AR10.

But this is the first aluminum handled bayonet I've seen.

I feel really bad for you guys with piles of AR10's in the woodshed.

A German company modded HK33 mags for use in Valmet 5.56 guns. Heck, might have even been the same company.

Kraut bastards.

We used to modify M14 magazines for our Valmet M78 .308 rifles...Braze on a small piece on the front, and another on the back...

You couldn't find M78 magazines...

I remember reading about this 12 or 13yrs ago in SF.. troops were doing this in Africa wile deployed and had a shortage of mags. I dindnt think the angles would work because no details were given on the mods. I would like to try that but getting the magcatch slot located looks to be a 1 shot deal!

Insert mag in magwell, remove mag release, mark location of slot where magazine feeds ammo into the rifle, and cut slot. Make jig and cut several mags using the same CORRECT LOCATION template. Do not cut one then use it as a template for the next Heard a 2nd hand story about a guy converting AR15 mags for use in an AR180 who modd'ed 10 AR15 mags, 3 of which worked and 7 of which the  slot was in the wrong location.

With mags at four bucks and mag boxes at 5 for <$15, you could afford to ruin a few;

Old Grouch Surplus

Fer what it's worth, I bought a few magazines from this vendor and was well pleased with the quality and service.

Is there any mag out there that will work in a current production AR10B, that is, "B" other than modded M14 mags?

I cannot think of any but maybe somebody else has found something.

??

He had a bunch of those in boxes in March when I stopped by. Piles of them in the wrapper. I love his store but I'm on the other side of the state. I lucked out and found some uzi mags for cheap and converted them for my 9mm AR.

Ha.  His best deal, no longer listed, was G3/HK91 magazine spare-parts kits.  All the pieces/parts for a complete magazine, disassembled, sold in 5-packs for less than $15 bucks, IIRC, and inasmuch as all it takes is like, what, 30-seconds max to assemble a magazine?  Walla!  Five mags and five bucks ahead!  Essentially a free mag and some change in every 5-pack.

Nice find.

OK, so they "tried" it but does it work?   Anybody feel like destroying a cheap G3 mag to see if they actually feed?

Tell you what.  I have not an original rifle nor any interest in mortgaging the homestead to acquire such a prize, but at the moment do possess a number of G3 mags.

I will cheerfully donate one to the cause if one of you here who is known to own an AR-10 and has sufficient skills and motivation to give it a real whang.  IM or email me if one of you are up to it.

Hmm, the feed angle and feed lips look like they are a close match.  I may have to try to mangle a mag or two just to see if it works.  I've got plenty of G3 mags, and an AR10.  I don't have time, though.  I'll add this to the many things I would like to do once my current assignment gets a bit slower after October.
