I have 70 30s here in WA (all have green followers and most have mag pulls). I have 12 more 30s cached in TN. I don't have as many twenties. Then again, I don't ever use 20s.

Funny part is, I only have 4 ARs.

How many do you have? Pics?

Link Posted: 12/31/2005 2:19:38 PM EDT
about 25 total, but with the 8.99 prices recently i'll be buying more.

Is that all?

I think I have about 15...

40-50 thirty rounders, 10 maybe 20 rdrs, 1 Beta CMag, 1 MWG 90 rounder, one of my 2006 goals is to buy 25 or 50 30 rd mags and just hoard them
Link Posted: 12/31/2005 5:24:48 PM EDT
I only have a couple of mags each for each AR.

if your a loser than I don't want to know what I am, I only have 7 (but I am working on more) I have been spending all my extra money on ammo

I got 16 mags total between my 2 ARs. 13 30s, 2 curved 20s, 1 straight 20.
Link Posted: 12/31/2005 8:39:37 PM EDT
I twenty six 30 round mags, two 20 round mags, and one 10 round mag.

(6) 30rd. thermolds
(20) 30rd. bushmasters
(2) 20rd. bushmasters
(1) 10rd. bushmaster

And I'm still waiting on 3 more thermold mags to come in

I have only eight 30 round magazines. The cool thing is they are all old mags from my friends USMC days. I had to shake some rocks from Panama out of them before I loaded them the first time. They all function flawlessly as well. I may be a loser but hey...one of them is a Colt!!!

20 T-65'S with MP followers
16 DH grey teflon coated w MP followers
10 DH grey teflon coated curved twenties

All loaded and in pouches.

Come to New York and you can use 10s!

What the hell do you need that many mags for? I got 16 USGI 30s, 6 Orlites, and 6 USGI 20s. I thought that was overkill.

Only reason why I have so many is because I stocked up during the ban to be sure I would have some mags in the future if some got worn out or broke. But 70+ mags??? You guys are nuts.

What if we had 10 rifles? Mag count should be on a "per rifle" basis. For range mags, I keep about 20.... whether I had one or 20 rifles.

This pic was taken in 2001, and includes every mag I had at that time.

This one, from late 2003, shows only AR mags. The collection had just about doubled and this was still before the ban ended. I've added another 40 or so NIW mags since then, and sold about 20 of the older ones. My non AR mag collection has ballooned to about 200 various mags too.

"per rifle basis"??????? Again, if you did have 10 rifles (and why would you need 10 ARs anyway) what would that matter how many mags you would have? 10, 20, or 30 rounds per rifle? How about 1 or 2 per rifle if you had 10 rifles? 20 isnt enough?

Y'know, if you didn't have so many mags you wouldn't have to worry about them wandering away on you necessitating the bimonthly inventory. Nice collection though. I can only dream.

Now, let's see all those HK G3 Aluminum mags from Tapco that people bought 50 for $50 and don't even have rifles for. I don't have mine along to post a pic but I know I'm not the only one who did it.

An old pic of the ready supply of mags; it didn't include the dozens that were loaded in ammo cans ready for range trips. I have a new storage method now, and have aquired a few additional ones; all told, for all guns that use magazines, enough so that they get their own entry on my insurance policy.

Good thing you individually numbered all those mags, otherwise you might get 'em mixed up!

When you say "bimonthly inventory", do you mean you count your mags twice each month, or did you mean to say your "semi-monthly inventory", i.e., you count them every two months?

I guess having 500rnds of ammo sitting at home is enought too?

You've already stated that you "stocked" up because of the ban. What is to say another ban won't come around, or that an excise tax won't be put on them? I see your from NY, what if NY State decided that the mags/rifles you own tomorrow, were the only mags/rifles you could ever own. I'd be willing to bet you would be scrambling to buy as many mags and rifles that you could.

Mags don't last forever, so having plenty of mags is always a good thing. The prices on new mags is so low right now, that now is the time to stock up on them. We never know what the future holds.

To each their own I guess. I got 16 USGI mags that I got during the ban to stock up. Im confident that these will last me for the next 50 years or so. Another ban might come around, thats why I got 22 30 rounders instead of 3 like I had before the ban. Havent sold em or plan to because there may be another ban.

As for ammo, some day there may be a ban on it. Actually IMO I think there will be a ban on "military ammo" before another ban on magazines. I only have about 2,000 rounds of 223 left, and I want to have about 5,000 stocked up just in case it is banned some day.

IMO I just dont see the point in having 100 mags. Yeah I think its nuts, but then again I know people who think Im nuts for the 30 or so high cap mags I have. If you want to and see the point then ok go for it.

Im just asking a simple question here. Why do you feel a need to have 100 mags? I know why I feel a need to have 20 mags, but I dont get the reason for having 100+ mags.

No, actually Ive been around weapons since I was born, shooting since 5, and I do know something about Politics.

Everybody here has a right to get 100 mags, 200, or even 1000 if you want to. Im not saying or suggesting you shouldnt or cant have as many mags as you want or in this discussion, need.

That ban pissed me off to no end. I cant count how many people who were "pro-gun" saying "you dont need 30 round mags". No then at that time I probably didnt. But I have stated to many people "you dont know what this country will be like 20 years from now". Again I cant count how many people thought I was nuts. Also how many people said I didnt need an assault rifle. When 9/11 hit I was in the suburbs of NY, even the biggest left wing anti-gun I knew asked me if I had a gun they could use for a few weeks. Suddenly there was a need.

Now 10 years since the ban I dont have a necessity for 30 rounders, and I doubt I will 10 years from now. But some day I may, that is why I have 22 30 round mags still stashed away.

IMO I just dont see why I would ever need 100 mags. If (by remote chance) World War III ever broke out the 30 or so mags I have should suffice. If you think you want/need more then fine, go ahead and stock up.

I agree. I had over 50 during the ban, but I sold or traded them all after it ended and replaced them with brand new mags. Now I have almost twenty 30 rounders and ten 20 rounders. I'll rely on my scrounging abilities if we get forced fed another ban.

Magazines..........Buy them cheap and stack them deep

A good rule to follow is the 20 magazines per rifle

On the AR scene I am sitting real good with magazines, my hoarding skills for AK magazines is lacking.
I think, without looking I have 12 AK magazines, and I am not going to pay more for a AK mag then what I pay for a AR mag

I use them at work and for personal use so, at any one time I got mags in the truck, the office, and at home.

I think the reason I have so many is that mags do wear out. I want enough to last me the rest of my life and part of my daughter's life if a newer more drastic ban was put into effect.

Also, for you people with more than one AR and one set of mags- are you planning on ever having to pass out your weapons to close friends or family that does not have any? If so, you had better plan enough mags for them. I can't stand people not being prepared but some aren't.

Mags are part of a weapon system- 20/rifle minimum.

I don't count my mags. In fact most of my mags are loaded in ammo cans. Everytime I buy 1K of ammo I put 500 in an ammo can and fill up remaining space in ammo can with loaded mags. After I stash it away I look around and don't see many available mags so I have to order more for range testing.

I think you've answered your own question. What if things had gotten worse then they did around NY. Do you have any close friends or family in the area? If things were worse, would they show up looking for a rifle to use? If so, would you lend them out? If so, do you have enough ammo and mags, that you would feel comfortable handing them out?

Not quite. I guess you are more generous than I am. Ive told my friends and family to get a rifle and some ammo. Most have. If any more of em showed up, then frankly they are shit out of luck. I warned em, then its their problem not mine. Im protected, told them to do same. If they arent prepared its thier problem not mine.

I have 10 with magpul gear that need to be refinished, 10 that need magpul gear and new paint, 5 NIW Labelles and some assorted 20's and 30's. Need at least 20 more good ones to use.
