I am thinking very seriously of doing a run of DPMS .308 uppers and or complete rifles with NOVESKE SS match barrels.
The design goal is to make a .308 semi auto of moderate weight and tack driving accuracy on a semi custom basis at the most reasonable cost possible.
I am generally thinking of 18" medium contour and maybe fluting. I am also thinking of two rail options to keep it simple. LaRue and DD in the 14" versions with a LaRue or Crane gas block.
Here is a pic of a basic concept rifle. I built this one for myself a couple of years ago. I just used a factory DPMS bull upper and cut the barrel to 18" and recrowned it. I then re-contoured the barrel to around .850 under the handguards and .750 on the front end. I used one of Sniper-X's rail systems.
Here is how this one shot after a little accurizing work and the recrown.
I guess the main question is barrel length. 20", 18" or 16" and do you think there would be enough interest to warrant the project?
As to complete rifles I am thinking of the uppers above combined with a lower with a good trigger and Magpul PRS buttstock and MIAD grip.
I am working with DPMS on this and just waiting on pricing on uppers without barrel assemblies and rifles without barrel assemblies or buttstocks to keep the price down.
Input?
Anyone think there would be interest?
