Getting ready to clean my Noveske Recon Stainless Barrel with a Vortex flash hider for the first time. I have a Lucas Bore Guide, and a nylon coated Dewey Rod. Do I run the patch through and let the jag and patch exit the barrel/crown and take the soiled patch off and than proceed to pull the rod with the jag attached back through the barrel/crown? Basically needing to know how to pull the patch off, but avoid the jag touching the crown? Or will the bore guide take car of the jag making contact with the crown and i can just let it exit the crown?

I install a stop on the rod. I let the patch just exit just enough to get the muzzle clean. Then pull the rod/jag/patch back and out towards the chamber. When I use a brush, i use the same technique. Never let the rod touch the muzzle.

if you're cleaning from the chamber end and using a bore guide there is little to  no chance of damaging the crown, regardless of you're method.

When the patch drops off the end of the jag at the muzzle just easily pull the rod back to the breech. If there is any misalignment between the jag and the rod it could eventually wear the muzzle but it would still take a lot of cleaning. I also pull brushes back through, but I am careful to gently ease the brush into the muzzle on the back stroke. There is no way in hell that rod can go through the bore without touching somewhere and that's why I like coated Dewey rods.
