Is there any specific way to identify the HK Maritime 556 magazines versus the regular steel mags?  I understand the follower should be black, and is coated in the maritime mags while the standard is not.

Any other markings that separate the two?

IIRC without looking the followers are coated black and the side are stamped 5.56x45mm

The side will laso have some other stamping's on them

Could someone confirm that these mags pictured are indeed the maritime HK mags?  I'm 99% sure they are, the followers are coated, etc. I just want to make sure in regards to value.

I was thinking the early ones (or was it the late ones?) had chrome followers.

ETA... those look exactly like my Maritime magazines.

Yet another ETA... I found a PFD in my storage hard drive that states the black followers are "Maritime" and the chrome followers are standard magazines.

I bought 10 of those in new condition form a pawn shop last summer for $25 each. If you are thinking of $45 or so, I think the price has softened.

Gotcha. I agree they are overpriced but oh well, so are most things HK IMO.

The reason .mil quit procuring them was weak springs and improper heat treating of the feed lips which resulted in type III malfunctions.

Overweight, overpriced paperweights.

I remember getting some of the HK mags in Iraq in 03' and they had the bright followers.  I think I still have 6 NIW in the footlocker at home.  Stop using them due to their weight and had one bend the feed lips.

I have not had good luck with these HK mags. I got rid of all of mine but one a long time ago.

overpriced and spotty track record.

Only the germans could take something like a simple magazine and make it worse.

I went to the range the other day with a 300blk, I took three HK Maritime mags, and one old coyote windowed pmag. The pmag fed perfectly, the three HK mags gave me stovepipes.

Edit to add ammo was PNW Supersonic.

Funny thing is I have a handful of the $9 Korean copies that have never given me any problems.
I figure at least a few of them have had 2-3k through them at least. Nary a problem ever.

Edit for disclaimer: These have only seen easy range use, I can't vouch for any durability in hard use environment.

Personally I wouldn't use them where they had to be counted on. PMag or D&H are my goto social mag.
