Two days ago I picked up another case of LC M193, which brings my M193 total up to 3500 rounds. Despite my wife thinking that I'm some sort of freak for stockpiling ammo I'll bet that my stash is nothing compared to most of the folks here. For my three ARs I currently have:

3500 rounds LC M193
1200 rounds(+/-) American Eagle 55gr FMJ
1000 rounds Wolf 62gr FMJ
200 rounds(+/-) various factory soft tip and hollowpoint
500 rounds Nosler ballistic tip (reloads)

I also have enough reloading components to make about 4,000 more, though some of those components belong to my shooting buddies.

Thanks in advance for your replies. I'm looking forward to a feeling of normalcy once I see how small my inventory actually is.

Let me rephrase your question, How much ammo of each caliber do you keep onhand? If you bought all this and didn't shoot any, then I'd said you have a problem. Tell your wife that "it's on sale" and she should understand.

Spend a few bucks on good mags so you can shoot some of it if SHTF.

I'll reply since I haven't posted anything today.[:D] I am in the process of building my first AR, so I don't even have a gun that will fire .223/5.56. But I do have about 360 rounds of it around. 280 Winchester (Q3131a) 40 Remington UMC 55gr 40 Winchester USA 62gr (USA223R3)

I hit the range every week and I shoot plenty. Between 22lr, 7.62x39, 38/357, 9mm, 40s@w, 45acp, and 12 gauge I have many thousands of rounds onhand, but for the sake of simplicity in this thread I'm mainly curious what people keep onhand to feed their ARs. Rephrasing the question isn't necessary.

There was a very interesting post about this recently. I still laugh about some of the posts: "Am I an Ammo Whore?"

hmmm... ~700 LC193 ( my ar is only two weeks old ) 150 Fed FMJ 45 ACP 150 PMC FMJ 45 ACP 50 Speer FMJ 45 ACP 40 RNL 45 ACP 100 various weights Pro Load JHP 45 ACP 100 230 JHP Golden Saber 45 ACP 50 230 JHP Miwall Police 45 ACP 50 185 JHP B&B reloads 45 ACP 50 200 JHP Flying Ashtrays 45 ACP I'm low on the Fed FMJ and the Pro Load. I want to build up the 5.56 supply. Oh, about 1000 22lr HP. My daughters need something to do when I go shooting... I try to stay at 500-1000 tested rounds for the 1911 and I think I would like to have about 2000 proven rounds of 5.56. I am looking at a tactical 12 guage and I think the comfort dump would be 300-500 rounds. If you need alot of practice with a shotgun you should consider moving to France. Oh, and I need an H1 to haul it. You know those things carry over a ton AND 5 200lb passengers!

My wife said I cant buy any more ammo until I shoot a couple of thousand rounds off.[:(]

I'm thinking that 10.000rd. of Lake City is a nice start...of course we can then add the C77, the IMI, the WW 62gr. and lots and lots of Federal and WW commercial 55gr. soft point... You're not even in the "just might possibly be on the road to becoming an ammo whore" category until you exceed 10,000rd. for a given caliber...excluding, of course, .22LR Your wife would really freak if she ever saw a friend's 100,000rd. plus stash of 5.56!

My wife would have a heart attack I think. She is used to seeing obscene quantities of ammo, but that's because I am the designated reloader for all of my shooting buddies. I make anywhere from 4,000 to 10,000 rounds of 9mm per month to feed their NFA subguns. That being said it would be much different if all that was mine. One of the nice things about being the designated reloader is that they pool their resources together for components and buy in bulk. The other benefit is that my "payment" for making all of this ammo is that my 9mm and 40s&w is free, they buy the components and supply the brass. We've done it this way for a few years and it works out great. I enjoy reloading and I'm the only one in the group who is patient enough to do it right. One of the guys has two older MP5 SDs that are pretty finicky about what they will cycle.

Good motto. If you can count it or keep track without a log book, it's not enough. [;)]

It might be fun to see some of your "stashes" [:)] For security reasons if you don't want to post a pic I certainly understand. That being said I'd love to see what a 100k stash looks like. Here is my modest stockpile: My newly refurbed ammo cans that hold my M193 and 45acp ammo. They also hold loaded AR mags: Ammo cans Here is my ammo locker that holds everything else. This pic is a little dated and there is a little less empty space now: Ammo locker I've got two more large ammo cans inbound so I can store more loaded mags and spare parts.

My ammo looks like stacks of large platic storage containers (foot locker size), which are two deep (no cover on the lower one, the top one stacks direclty on the lower level of ammo cans with a couple black trash bags to keep out dust and screen the contents), each with 20 ammo cans in it (can't move them, but they keep the ammo cans tiddy, are a little more PC, fit under the wall shelf and provide a place to put the smaller storage containers and tool boxes with mags on top [;)]. The rest of the ammo goes on / under the table saw and under the work benchs ... maybe have to put in industrial shelfs like one friend with the 50 cal M2HB and 20mm.

I can't sleep at nite if I go below my personal minimum of 1000 rounds of LC M193. You know the "What If" thing drives me nuts. I will buy 2 more cases this week. A local shop has NATO stamp 03 LC M193 500 round cases for $87.00. "Can't go wrong there".

I'm with you brother. Although the more I hang out here at ARF the higher my personal minimum seems to get [:D] I used to think that 1000 rounds was more than I'd ever need "just in case". Now I have around 6400 rounds just for the ARs and I'm thinking that I need at least double that to be comfortable. Oddly enough, my three ARs aren't really part of my home defense plan-although my new Colt M4 carbine will probably be tasked to it eventually. I rely on an HK USP45 and a Benelli M3 Super90 for "things that go bump in the night". I've got a pretty decent supply of 22lr, 7.62x39, 38/357, 9mm, 40s@w, 45acp, and 12 gauge as well. The 5.56 is purely for my own peace of mind and also my enjoyment at the range.
