What do you think? I think 500 without a FTF/FTE would be good.

Personally I would like to have at least 10 ultra reliable mags, and it takes about 3 or so successful firing unloads before I will stamp a mag reliable.  10mags X 30rds X 3 unloads = 900rounds.  Alot of feeeding problems are mag related.  Shooting this many rounds through this many mags should also uncover any other internal problems you have.  500 seems to be a pretty fair number, depending on how many mags you keep handy.

+1, espeacially on the mags.  I had a friend who had some shitty mags and he thought the issues were deriving from the rifle.  I told him to pick up some Bushmaster mags at Eaglefirearms.net and his rifle is reliable as any other.

Good article in the Guns and Ammo AR-15 magazine; discuss organizing and finding reliable mags.

Also mongo knows everything,

Cause it'll only last 1 round before screwing up?

Tell that to my Colt SP1 w/ approx 12K rounds down the pipe and not a single hiccup ever.

I hope you don't really believe that.

My Clots have been no more reliable than any of my other ARs, they have all been good.

I consider mine reliable after running it through a 2 day class. This goes for pistols and carbines.

I agree my first AR was a Colt sp1   I had about shot 5K before I sold it and never had one problem.

untill you start to lose count after say 20,000 rounds.

Realistically, for my needs, I usually go by the 1000 rd. mark, Aftewr which, The weapon is on
probationary period 'till further notice

I Just got my first bushmaster post ban A2 20” back after I did a trade for it back  It has over 9,000 rounds through the barrel feeds and functions like a new rifle The finish on the rifle is still 100%. I replaced the Bolt carrier cam pin because it was starting to wear a groove in it and 3 or 4 firing pin cotter keys. When I hit 10,000 Rounds I will rebuild the bolt just for the hell of it and check the head space. I have some old USGI Mags with no finish and the springs are some what weak and it still feeds. I had a Couple FTF but it was not the rifles problem it was due to a crappy USA brand Magazine and the other FTF was due to a broken case when the back of the case got ripped off. I forgot I had to put a new set of hand guards and I had an Armalite Lower parts kit in the rifle before I sold it I took it out and put the Bushmaster Lower parts kit back in so there are only 2000 rounds through the lower parts kit... This Rifle has had over $1,400 of ammo pumped through it
And it still functions Great that goes to show you how well built these AR15 style rifles are. There was another member here who had a Colt that worked flawless and it had over 15,000 rounds through it then the ejector broke. 15,000 just think how many pounds of ammo was pumped through that rifle.
