Was wondering how many magazines you guys have? that you feel is enough??? I just keep buying and buying every time Kerry makes a little headway, because if he gets in there we are done.....

I'm fast approaching 200 AR mags, but I have 10 rifles now....
Link Posted: 10/16/2004 10:45:29 AM EST
Oh no, not again .

Minimum of 12 per rifle is one school of thought. I say if you can count 'em, you don't have enough.
Link Posted: 10/16/2004 10:51:58 AM EST
For some reason, I'm always a couple shy of enough.
Link Posted: 10/16/2004 10:53:40 AM EST
I only have about 50 and 11 ARs (I think) but I'm a slacker.
Link Posted: 10/16/2004 11:56:42 AM EST
I think around 20 for the AR mostly usgi
Link Posted: 10/16/2004 11:59:59 AM EST
As many as you can afford, because you can never have to many.

20 NIW per AR15 plus 10 per AR to use at range

I keep 40-30 rnd mags plus a 10 20rnders loaded in either pouch carriers or bandoliers. I in the process of doing the same for my 6.8SPC (I have saved some of the latest Remington ammo + I reload 6.8SPC). This covers both my better half and myself. One can never have enough mags + ammo. I used to have many but I lost most of it in a boating accident

Only 17h1 used/demo mag from SAW with the red spring
3 Teflon-coated magazines from CMMG with chrome-silicon springs and MAGPUL followers. (2004 production mags)

The three from CMMG are my favorite without a doubt.
Link Posted: 10/16/2004 3:05:53 PM EST
30! and workin' on gettin' more. Mostly GI and Orlites.
Link Posted: 10/16/2004 4:07:35 PM EST
I only have eight 30 rounders and two 20 rounders. Two pairs of 30s are "jungle clipped" together. They all have Wolff +10% springs and MagPul anti-tilt followers. I guess this is an example of "quality over quantity" :) However, I do plan on getting more down the line.

Oh, I also only have one AR.

30 30's and 20 20's. Plus one hacked up Bushmaster POS 10 rounder that I am packing up and shipping to DiFi.

I just ordered 24 more Colt thirty round mags with the "Red spring" from SAW sales

I give up on how many I have now since the ban went away

Too many according to the wife. Too few according to me. Pushing 140-30's and 50-20's two beta's and 4 90 rnd drums. Most were bought back in the days of $2 mags.

Link Posted: 10/16/2004 5:27:51 PM EST
Just the easily accessible ones, not including the 28 loaded 30 round mags in the range box...

Link Posted: 10/16/2004 6:00:56 PM EST
130- 30 rounders mostly "Bushmaster"(Labelle).....1-20 rounder.....2 Beta Mags....with 100-30 rd D&H mags coming and 30-30rd Labelle LEO mags along with 3LMT uppers and what ever else Paul decided on sending.

Now...what to get for Christmas?

and to think......I thought my set-up was good

a lot

i got 3 right now

waiting on a couple dozen more; waiting on the next ban, you know its coming
Link Posted: 10/17/2004 7:09:43 AM EST
I carried 18 all the time in VN. They were 20 rounders, USMC didn't have 30's in those days. Lots of fire fights and so many rounds you all are still paying for them. Three rifles and not one mag failure. My guess is 20 per rifle seems about correct. Been using the same 5 20's since 92 about 25,000 or more rounds and no failures. To each his own I guess!

Wow and I use to think i had a lot. I have 39 30- rounders, 20 20- rounders. Mostly Colt and Labelle GI mags. 11 More on order from Tapco. But now I feel inadequate and will have to go find some more

I have 40 30s and 11 20s and it is definitely not enough. There is no such thing as enough magazines.. or ammo.

This is most of them, I think. I always seem to find one or two in a hidden corner somewhere.

This should be enough for two rifles, shouldn't it?

27 here for one gun
12 usgi 20s
6 colt 30's
7 brit steels
2 other 30's.

DavidC and TennVol, man, I am proud of you guys!

I have 70 mags for 6 AR's.
Link Posted: 10/20/2004 3:26:46 PM EST
I buy 50 new magazines per rifle. Bump it up to 65 for the flimsy USGI alloy M-16 mags. I finally saw the light after a salesman at my local gun shop hammered this home to me and I read Boston's Gun Bible. Don't waste your time on aftermarket or used magazines. If you don't have a mag, you have a really tricked out single shot. While your at it, buy three complete parts sets per rifle, and a couple extra small parts (firing pins, extractors, spring kits, ejectors, front sight posts, pins) on top of that wouldn't hurt.

You know, I don't think any member of the site has ever thought of this.

Welcome aboard.

It just takes some of us a little longer, that's all!! Expect much improvement with the new market environment.

This is why you just have extra rifles...

All detachable mag semi-autos will be the first to go (with .50 BMGs not far behind). Who is going to make parts for rifles that are banned? What if part of the ban states that ownership of the existing rifles can not be transferred? What if part of the ban states that replacement parts for assault rifles can not be sold to civilians? What if part of the ban prohibits any gunsmith from taking a semi-auto detachable mag rifle in for repair? What if I'm left standing there with 20 AR-15s with: blown gas seals; bent gas tubes; bent recoil spring guide tubes; a shot out barrel; a sheared firing pin tip; weak springs; air soluble detents, springs, and pins; a shattered buttstock (from crushing somebodies skull); cracked forends; bent barrel; sheared off front sight post; bolt to upper receiver galling because I can't go down to the gun store and get Break-free because there are no more gun stores; obstruction in the bore (mud, snow, human flesh) that results in a bulged barrel if I'm lucky, a blown-up rifle if I'm not; or . . . .well, until that day then.

Man what a bummer

I think 10-15 per rifle is a pretty good rule of thumb. I have about 17 Mini 14 mags (all good ones too, PMIs, Rugers), 12 or so AK Mags (all 30s except for one 20), and I will have 16 AR Mags (3 20s and 13 30s) after next week when my 10 arrive. I know there will be even more if, God forbid, John Kerry becomes president.

While I would rather not have a fire, ammo in magazines is no more dangerous than ammo still in it's original boxes. In either case, neither is partiocularly dangerous when burned. Ammo tends to go 'pop'; it doesn't start shooting rounds around the site of a fire (unless you are in a movie).

Link Posted: 10/24/2004 3:38:46 AM EST
I have 170+ and counting and for some reason I still feel that I need more Right now it works out to be 17 mags per AR. I tend to buy the mags first and add the ARs as my count goes up
Link Posted: 10/25/2004 4:39:52 AM EST
I had only a few extra mags before my boating accident. Now I have nothing left. Not even one rifle.
Link Posted: 10/25/2004 3:28:45 PM EST
My range/SHTF mags are generally kept loaded at all times. There are fourteen 30 rounders in each ammo can, as well as ten 20 rounders (there is a layer of mags laying down under the others):

I've lost track of the number of NIW mags I have. I buy a few every chance I get.

High rate 30 round mag spring from sawlesales.com. Kind of like a Wolffe extra power spring.

I just picked 24 of the Facotry Demo 30 round magazines with the Red Spring from SAW.........$14.50 each and they have Colt Floor plates........oh yeah and they have the restricted stamp too

Kind of hard to beat that price for Colt magazines
