Hi all,
Just wanted to get this started up again. I'm curious as to how heavy or light the AR rifles/carbines/pistols you guys are running these days.

This is my wife's AR15, 10lbs without 30rnd mags, 12lbs with 2 30rnd mags. She is 5ft. 6in @115lbs and she can run this system pretty well for an entire day. It's an all around gun from CQB to 400yard shots.

even though its not an "ar"  my HK g36K clone is right at 7.5 lbs with the dual optic.  7.3 lbs with rail and red dot.

My POF 308 build (with 22" JP super match barrel) im scared to weight, but i would EASILY say its 15 lbs.

Total weight unloaded 7.3 lbs

Weight with magpul 30 round mag loaded a little over 8 lbs for my stick

It is more about the balance to me than the overall weight.  I like to keep my rifles under 8 pounds though.  7 to 7.5 is better.

colt 6940 10.1lbs
Link Posted: 9/30/2012 2:10:09 PM EDT
Ok so average load out is like 7-8lbs.
Link Posted: 9/30/2012 2:11:54 PM EDT
Balance is the key, no doubt,   All those front heavy beasts really slow me down!    I'll go to so bizzare lengths to
keep the harem in balance.  Can be really challenging when you get into rails and toys !!!!

Ok so average load out is like 7-8lbs.

I think 7-8lbs is the low end

8.5 lbs to 11.2 lbs, dependeig on what is attached at the time.

Link Posted: 9/30/2012 2:22:39 PM EDT

My wife's set up has the RRA 16" CAR Heavy barrel. She likes the weight for stability for longer shots, she rather engage from far than up close, but I think quick handling is sacrificed in CQB because of the weight.
Link Posted: 9/30/2012 3:55:38 PM EDT
I have absolutely no clue
Link Posted: 9/30/2012 3:56:01 PM EDT
18lbs Renn? Are you carrying an M2?
Link Posted: 9/30/2012 4:09:49 PM EDT

Balance matters more than weight.for 8 years I carried an a2with m203 SO FORGET IT UNLESS IT IS UNDER 7LBS ITS NOT LIGHT ENOUGH.thats why my Light weight is a PS90.

My Pony with a 14.5 inch SOCOM barrel weighs 8 pounds 5 ounces with a Pmag full of 30 rounds of M855

Right around 10.8 lbs but it's balanced well so it feels good.
I have a carbine class coming up in October we'll see how the weight really feels then.

Noveske Rogue Hunter with a Burris AR-332 weighs 7lbs 2oz. I haven't weighed a loaded magazine so I didn't include that.

Link Posted: 9/30/2012 4:31:35 PM EDT

I can't remember but I think they are about 7 pounds loaded
Link Posted: 9/30/2012 4:34:48 PM EDT
Mine is a bit front heavy with the YHM can. 11.5" bbl and I carry it all day and don't care. It may be heavy, but it's quiet and mine. I put it together for me so weight is what it is. I have no idea, and I really don't care too much. I like it, I'll carry it.
Link Posted: 9/30/2012 4:50:23 PM EDT
My 6.8 is around 9lbs.

Link Posted: 9/30/2012 5:37:05 PM EDT
So little pics in this thread.

My 14.5 is 8.0 loaded

This 16 inch is 8.5 loaded but don't have it anymore.

Would also like to give props to your wife for being able to handle that AR unsupported op.

Bathroom scale has me unloaded at 195  and my AR unloaded at 8.5 replacing the acs stock with the sop mod changed the whole balance of the rifle for better.

My AR are from lightweight KISS all the way up to a heavy pig, I'll start with my lightest to heaviest showing empty weights, just add about 1 pound to include a fully loaded 30 round mag.

AR No. 1:  Colt 6920 M4 style 16" carbine KISS - 6.95 lb

AR No. 2:  USGI M16A2 Colt 20" upper half on Colt Match Target lower - 7.8 lb

AR No 3: LMT Defender 2000 M4 16" carbine with KAC M4 RAS rails, KAC VFG, Surefire M951C weaponlight, MIAD grip, CTR stock, KAC 300m rear BUIS, EOTech 551 on LaRue QD mount - 8.6 lb

AR No. 4: Colt 6920 M4 style clone 16" with KAC M4 RAS rails, KAC VFG, Surefire M951 weaponlight, LMT rear BUIS, Aimpoint on LaRue cantilever QD mount - 8.7 lb

AR No. 5: Colt 6721 HBAR 16" carbine with KAC M4 RAS rails, Magpul AFG1, Troy DOA rear BUIS, EOTech, MIAD grip, CTR with enhanced 0.7" buttpad - 9.5 lb

AR No. 6: Colt 6721 with medium SOCOM contour, midlength gas system, 16" barrel, LaRue Tactical 9.0 FF rails, TD VFG (now using LaRue FUG VFG), Surefire M961C weaponlight, EOTech, Troy rear BUIS, MIAD grip, and Vltor EMOD stock kit - 10.0 lb

HBARS, long rails, under rail grips, weapon lights should be removed if you want a light to carry gun. If over 9 lbs unloaded, you can carry it, I'll stick to mine!

My guns except the NV set-ups are 6.8-8 LBS unsuppressed & unloaded.

Heavy as hell - 20" hbar Bushmaster A2 config
Link Posted: 10/1/2012 3:21:03 AM EDT
My Dissipator weighs exactly 7 lbs.

My Grendel rifle weighs around 10.

My Carbine weighs 8.5

My .300 BLK SBR weighs 7.

Link Posted: 10/1/2012 4:50:24 AM EDT
The heaviest AR I own is the 6.8.  9.5 lbs with a 30 round mag, Aimpoint M4s and light.

The lightest is my pencil barreled 14.5" SBR; just 6.6 lbs with 30 rounds of 5.56.  It's a KISS gun, no optics or rails.

I agree that balance matters.  The heavier gun with the Magpul stock on balances right, if I put an M4 stock on it to shed some mass it gets nose heavy.

ETA pics.

Somewhere around 6 on the 14.5 L/W middy. I don't have an accurate scale.

Somewhere around 12 on the 24" bull barreled opposite end of the spectrum.

Link Posted: 10/1/2012 5:45:02 AM EDT
Bottom one is a Colt ~7.5 pounds.

The top one is ~14 pounds. Maybe 15.

Link Posted: 10/1/2012 8:38:07 AM EDT
8.5 pounds with a loaded 30 round magazine. The STR was swapped for a CTR so take a few more ounces off. HBAR's and A2 front sight bases are heavy. I feel sorry for some of you.

Link Posted: 10/1/2012 9:29:14 AM EDT
7.0 #'s with a half filled mag.

I'm with the balanced crowd. Other half's AR is front heavy.
Link Posted: 10/1/2012 9:50:50 AM EDT
Hmm, I would guess my heaviest comes at 13lb. My lightest 7.5 lbs
Link Posted: 10/1/2012 10:28:55 AM EDT

All of them together? About 40 lbs.
Link Posted: 10/1/2012 3:33:16 PM EDT

Love the GL-SHOCK Stock. I have one on my Saiga 12. How is the kick on that?
Link Posted: 10/2/2012 5:17:55 AM EDT
Almost non-existent. Between the rifle length gas, heavy buffer, heavy barrel, and muzzle brake there is very little felt recoil or muzzle rise. The recoil-absorbing features of the stock were really not necessary on this rifle, but it's a much nicer stock than the GLR-16.
