I know the battery compartment bumps into the handguard on an M4, but:

Can you mount it fully forward on the receiver, if you are using a Larue fore end? I mean, so that the battery compartment sits above the handguard? Thanks. If you have a pic, that would help too!

You can mount it one slot further forward then this, but you won't be able to get the hand guards off on a middy.

You betcha. The LaRue mount is the way to go.

I can mount my 552 directly on T-13, which is the last slot on the upper receiver. The sight goes over the barrel nut and the battery compartment actually sits on the LaRue 9.0 rail. I'm not sure about anyone elses rail collar ring but mine was not too tall to properly mount the EOTech.

It will also work mounted on the fore end rail but the carbine will balance better when the EOTech is placed closer to the center like I have it in the picture below.

BTW, I've been told if your upper receiver rails are not machined to spec then you may not be able to mount and EOTech over the barrel nut. Maybe this is the issue that some folks are having.

It's a good thing CMT M4 upper receivers are done right, though I was also very careful with aligning the upper receiver rail to the top of the LaRue 9.0 rail when I installed it. Maybe I got lucky.

Thanks everyone! Mike, I meant forward on the receiver.

So it's possible that people who have trouble making the eotech fit over their Larue forends, actually have an almost imperceptibly misaligned forend??

Sure... thats a Surefire handguard, not a LaRue, but it will work with the LaRue too. It "may" not work with a Daniel Defense (it does on some but not on others, dont know why).

It will work on a Daniel Defense if you have the 'new' style retaining nut. I have the 'new style' and it mounts like that just fine. The older style nuts were just big enough to interfer.

However if you use a LaRue Mount with your EOTech you should have no worries either way:

That would certainly make sense. Tweak had a listing of flattop heights he had gathered over the years. Some of them certainly were on the 'low' side.

Possible, but also likely that their flattop's rails was a bit low (bad machining and/or forging die).

CS,
For the magnifier on that rifle, that magnifies your eotech, is there a quick release/arms throw for that?

Are these M4 handguards? I did not know that the LaRue/Eotech-combo will fit over a M4 handguard?

The LT EOTech mount and EOTech will fit over the M4 HG's.

yes, they are and it should fit nicely over my troy mfr-c if grant gets them in....

Gentlemen thank you all.

BTW, the eotch 512 will NOT mount forward over standard Colt handguards, either. It's deceptive, as you can actually get the eotech mount to engage, but the nose/battery compartment is forced up, barely enough to notice, but enough to rule out the possibility.

In other words, if you can mount it securely then just do it and don't worry about small imperfections. Zero the sight accordingly and test it to make sure it holds true and if does then you're good to go!

I've no troubles mounting the EOTech fully forward on the receiver w/Colt M41A upper and Larue FF quad rails ~ no contact with the collar.

I'm not using any rail panels ~ unsure if they would interfere (but likely could be cut to conform anyway).

Cheers,
Paje

Grant,

Have you gotten on ETA on when LaRue's uppers will be available. Last time I talked to someone at LaRue they wouldn't spill the beans on when their uppers and lowers(yes, they will be making lowers) will become available.

Paje,

Sweet looking twins!
