And does 20 cents/round seem like a decent deal? Is this ammo comperable to regular Portuguese ammo? I have heard good things about Portuguese, but never shot any.

Local flyer has the 200 round linked Port 308 for $39.99/can, I was thinking about getting two.

Whaddya think?

The guys I've talked to say it is just as good as the green battle packs but that price seems a little high.  1000 rounds of the old was around $169 the last time I found some.

Thanks for the response!

Even though it's a few cents more per round I might get some and delink it just to have on hand.

The links are worth 7 cents each to someone with a 1919A4 machinegun. That, and the can they come in is worth 3-5 bucks depending on availability. That brings the ammo cost down significantly.

Buy it, it might not be around too long.

The links are worth 7 cents each? For real?

Huh. That's an easy $14/can, right? That brings the price down nicely.

Obviously I'm going to sacrifice a few links until I get a good method to delink them but that's pretty sweet.

No sacrifice, they should pull right out with a little twist.

If you drive some big nails into a board to fit the spacing between the links you can de-link them by pushing several out at a time.  Use your imagination and rig up some type of delinker if you can't do it by hand.

I bought some of the linked Portuguese 308 from Sportsmansguide.  It shot nice groups from my Savage.  Easy to de-link.

Thanks guys. I think I'm going to go buy a couple cans of it before I head to the range today.

If it's easy to delink by hand, it's probably linked for the M60, not a 1919.  Only if it's Isreali 1919 308 links would it be worth 6-7 cents a piece. regular 1919 links and m60 links go for about 20-25 per 1K. If it's factory linked stuff, in sealed cans, it's probably M60, as only Isreal ever had the 1919 in 308.

Picked up two cans... I delinked 5 rounds just to see how difficult it was. Not hard at all.
