I am thinking of reloading Speer 69gr. Sierra Match Kings and shooting them through a 20" 1:9 barrel.

Sounds like a winner.
Consider this, the Hornady 68 is cheaper to buy, and is more effective terminally than the 69 SMK. As far as accuracy is concerned, I doubt you'd ever notice unless you are some serious benchrest guy. The Hornady 68 is nearly .10" longer than the 69. The 68 hornady, being longer, and thus more dart shaped, has a better ballistic coefficient. So you might want to look into the Hornady. Black Hills uses the 68h. |

Out of *my* rifles, I like the Nosler 69's more than anything. Neither of my Rock Rivers will shoot the Hornady's worth a darn, and when I posted that fact on here last year, it turns out that I was not alone, that several people have had less than stellar results with Hornady's. I say try a box of each of the big four, [Yellow, Red, Green and Black] and then stick with whatever shoots best in your gun... |

If it doesn't work for you, don't use it. The other 69's are fine too.
I don't see a big difference from a self-defense perspective. .5moa and .25moa aren't significant for perforating dirtbags. If you're competing, it is very significant. |

For what it's worth, I am loading 75 amax and getting half inch groups at 100yds with it out of a 16 inch chrome lined bushmaster. As others have stated, test it and see how it shoots. If it works, use it. If not, try something else and so on......

Terrible. Average group size of about 350 rds of 69 gr SMK and Nosler J4 handloads (and some Federal Gold Medal Match) has been just over 0.9".
Here's my best group out of a White Oak Armanent 16" midlength stainless match grade 1:9 with .223 Wylde chamber (0.453" center to center).  Hornady 68's don't shoot that well through this barrel. |

For my money 69 gr. probably shoots the best groups short line, 200-300yds. I use 77 gr. only because I get them for free. I use Sierre 80 gr. boat tails for the long line.
