On my LMT before I removed the stock the receiver end plate appeared to be staked so that it would not move. I put a new stock on the rifle and wouldnt mine doing this myself so that it does not move out of place.

anyone know how LMT does this?

Not sure how they do it but I use a punch and a hammer, which seems to work just fine. It may not be as pretty though.

Seems I see a small punch mark on mine.

My LMT have round punch stake marks, two places with gray/ black touch up paint.

center punch. doesn't take much to stake and leaves marks very similar to LMT's.

Pretty dirt simple...

Probably with a punch, but the same effect can be had with a screw driver.

Punch and hammer. Same method used on the gas key. A REAL easy and simple mod.

Take a center punch and slightly dull the tip with a file and it will give you a good stake and not as much of a burr.

I've done all three of mine myself with a punch. Word to the wise though, be careful. The first two went fine. On the third I scratched my receiver, put a tiny mark on it. Don't ask me how I did it because I don't know. I think some endplates are harder than others and take more force to stake.
It may be helpful to put some masking tape over your receiver near the castle nut if you are a numnuts like me or care about things like that.

And mine seem to be square, but also touched up.

I usually de-grease, use the blue lok-tight, and put on tight. Never had one move.

Here are pics of mine with round punch stake marks

That's strange that the factory does it different ways.

Question moved:

I decided to ask this question over in the build-it-yourself section under a new thread. Sorry for the bump of this old thread.
