I have a 6-position "m4" stock. I wanted to remove the stock for painting from the buffer tube. I thought I would be able to tap out the little pin that holds the nut looking thing from the piece you press to change position. Well minor frustration and a broken punch later it wouldn't come out and I just ended up masking off the rest of the rifle.

What was I doing wrong?

Pull straight down on the release lever until it stops and then slide the stock right off.

Don't worry, I screwed with the same thing for several hours before someone told me how simple it was.

Thanks! I knew I was probably over thinking it.
