I just picked up 7 boxes (140 rounds) of 'HotShot' brand SS109 ammo from CTD. It's manufactured in Bosnia and for 4.79 a box it sounded like a great deal. Has anybody tried it and is it NATO spec ammo or just a 62gr. steel core .223 cartridge? Thanks, Stan

It's really good ammo and has the SS109 projectile.

Check out the reviews it has received here on AR15.com.

Look for the Federal XM855 thats out there. Basically the same thing, but American made and should be a bit cheaper. I would think you could trust American Military ammo over Bosnian stuff, but I could be wrong on that as I haven't tried the HotShot yet.

ETA: Check the Ammunition Review. Theres a poll about it there.

I shot some through my 1/7 Colt HBAR. It's pretty good stuff. No failures, pretty accurate.

I get it for $3.50 a box and haven't had any problems yet in my 1/9, 16" Match barrel w/M16 bolt/carrier.

I got a half-case locally recently and tried some at 200 yds last Saturday. No functioning issues, shot cleanly and accurately in my 1x9. First impressions are good, definitely intend to shoot more, as my DPMS likes 62 gr.

I was shooting S&B M193 .223 Rem ammo and found a bulk add for S&B 5.56x45 made by S&B. The ammo looks the same other than the green tip on the NATO SS 109. Is this SS 109 the same other than the Steal Core and the fact that it's 62 grs? Is it safe to shoot through my Bushy chambered in .223 5.56? My Bushy is: XM15 E2S V Match 24 with fluted heavy bbl.
