WTF??  That cartridge will bring down whitetail with ease!  You can hunt with a 10mm or 357 Magnum, but not a 22-250.  Sad.

My gun club will only let you shot that round on Satuday.  dude thinks it distorys his target systems.  

if you've got a rifle chambered in 20mm-45(.45acp necked up to 20mm-non existance) and velocities of 150fps with a 800gr bullet then that's considered a lethal round for hunting because the idiot that made the decision don't know jack crap about firearms and any big caliber is better than a .224-wow the 20mm's got a whopping 39ftlbs of energy-enough to dispatch cockroaches at 10ft

See in Kansas they say nothing smaller than .23, but that is legacy and has been in there 50+ years.
They also limit pistol calibers based on size and FPS.
Those are ofcourse only for big game, which is   deer(white tail and mulie), antilope(if you are one of the extremely lucky), elk, and turkey, but you cant hunt turkey w/ rifle.
All other legal ground critters can be taken by any calibers/gagues, except upland birds which is shotgun only.
Missouri has no such size restriction on big game.

One thing this topic does highlight is some of the silliness in the various state regs.  NM says any centerfire caliber rifle or pistol for deer.  They attempt to make the elk requirements real strict.  Any center fire caliber rifle or pistol of 24 caliber.  I am good to go, with my .32 Seecamp.  It's way overkill for deer, but just right for Elk  What is really sad is that the lack of sensible regulations tend to indicate that the Game Department leaves the common sense up to the hunter.  In New Mexico?  Not enough bandwidth to get into that discussion.

At least Colorado specifies minimum energy requirements along with caliber limitations.  Not sure whether or not the Game Officers carry around charts, data and graphs, but my experience has taught me that most will take your word for it.  I have been stopped with my 458 Socom and assorted handguns, and they seem to be mostly concerned with license violations, tresspass and alcohol consumption.  Of course my 458 had to be checked for magazine capacity compliance.  Those darn evil black rifles.  I suppose it is like the BATF.  If they bust you for an obvious big game violation, then they might break out the kinetic bullet puller, chrongraph and scales.

Marty is working on a 6x45 for me right now, and I specifically requested that he stamp the barrel caliber forward of my MGI handguard.  Lets see, a .243 caliber bullet in 5.56 brass.  Could look an awful lot like a 5.56 without calipers.  I don't mind toting ballistic charts around with me in my fanny pack, but I draw the line at calipers.  I'm gonna try this out on antelope.  I'll save my Seecamp for New Mexico elk hunting.........

I live in Minnesota.  I guess that doesn't really add anything to this post.

However, the .30 Carbine was allowed for big game for the first time this year.  It was passed in the legislature early 2005.  Immeadiately after it was passed a writer in a local outdoors publication ranted about the ineffectiveness of the that particluar cartridge.  

I find it interesting you can't use .223/5.56 in Minnesota yet they allow 30 carbine.  I think it had to do with some Metrocrats (urban democrats) who thought it was ok to walk through the woods with a wood stocked non portruding pistol grip rifle vs. an evil black rifle.  Just my 2 cents.  

I was struck with EBRD late last year.  I love it.  My wife was upset because I spent so much money on a rifle and I can't kill deer with it.  I told her to write her local legislator or allow me to buy a .458 upper.  She wants me to write the letter and hold off on the upper.  I did not write a letter, However I saving for the upper.

.30 Carbine is a powerhouse compared to .25-20, which is also legal according to that list...
