The title says it all. I happened to read a comment about 2 weeks ago to the effect that Colt had manufactured over 9,000,000 (don't know if that was accurate or not, though) of the M16/M4 variants---which got me to wondering how many "total" firearms in the AR-15 family have been made since production began----by "whomever". There is FN, Diemaco, all the "commercial/civilian" AR manufacturers, et. al.

How about in &/or for the U. S.? IIRC, previous to the AR, the most manufactured firearm for the U. S. Armed Forces was the M1 Carbine at slightly over 6MM total production.

Anyone Know and/or got an educated guess on these questions?

Does anybody really care what time it is?

Not sure anyone knows for sure, but if the 9 million number is right for military issue, I'd say around 11 million total. (remember most/many of those 9 million .mil guns have been destroyed by now

2 million civilian

I base this on BATF figures ---->See them here listed by year for all makers. You would have to ID the AR makers and add them up

There are about 100,000 to 125,000 per year or so made (civilian)

that number has surely increased over the last 20 years (or 30) so you can say an average of about 65,000 over 30 years

Thats 1,950,000 (close to 2mm)
