Picked up a rifle last week, Spike's Punisher lower with a supposed DPMS upper.  The barrel is marked with 5.56 NATO 1-7, nothing under the hand guard.  From what could be found DPMS barrels are 1/9, so is this a decent barrel or does it need to be changed?

DSA, maybe? They make a CL 1-7.  Perhaps someone with a DSA will come along and compare your photo to their barrel.

At this point a person would have to psychic to know if you have a good barrel.

Are DSA barrels decent for a paper puncher?

Yes.  Absolutely nothing wrong with them for that purpose.

Who knows if it's even a DSA barrel?

Is is chrome lined?

BTW, my most accurate CQB AR uses a 5.56 chambered, 1:7 twist barrel.  I prefer the 1:7 barrels over the 1:9's (just my preference)

I have a DSA barrel and it is not marked like that. That being said, my DSA is excellent and very accurate. I think you are fine

Shoot it and find out. Try a couple different loads, and try some heavier bullets like 65 or 69grs for that 1:7. General consensus is that twist will shoot bullets over 55 better than less than 55gr.
