Spent some time at the range today.  Buddy's BW shot fine offhand.  Tried several rounds from the bench and had several failures to eject.  Had to use a dowel rod to push the case out.  One time it pushed the next live round so hard it pushed the bullet flush with the top of the case. .  Back to offhand shooting, no failures.

Suggestions?????

Is this situation occurring with factory loads or handloads?  I have experience with 2 different Beowulfs, and have not seen this happen with either one.

My Beo likes a lot of lubrication.  I am very careful to put a good taper crimp on each round.  Interested to see what others have to say.

Call Bill, ((540) 639 8356)

I have not experienced any FTE from any position.

Good Luck and BTW Bill is a very personable guy who would help you any way he can.

Speaking of lubrication, I was having a failure to load from the magazine into the chamber, and sent my gun to AA.  Bill Alexander called me and said that I was using the wrong kind of lubrication.  My lube was vegtable based, which was cooking into a sludge when the gun was being shot.  Long story short, he recommended that I use CLP, which I subsequently did, and the problem went away.  So, if you're not using CLP, maybe that is the problem.

my guess is not holding it tight into the shoulder on the bench.  like limpwristing a 1911.

That was my first thought, he said he was holding it tight since it kicks like a mule.

I'll forward the other suggestions, maybe we can try them tomorrow.

Were you resting the mag on the benchtop - i.e. was the weight of the rifle resting on the mag in any way while firing? My steel, factory Beo mag can move enough in the mag well with weight on it that it can do wacky things like that. My aluminum mags don't seem to have that problem.

We think we have the problem diagnosed.  The extractor was slightly deformed.  When he first got the rifle he was firing it on a lower made for 9mm glock mags.  He had to fire the rifle one round at a time by dropping it in the chamber and releasing the bolt.  Our theory is that was what caused the deformation.

so why would it only do it from the bench, not offhand.  wierd.

Not sure, after we install the new extractor we'll find out if that was the real root cause.

Extractors are made of treated steel, whereas the cases are brass.  Even if you were using the feeding method mentioned, there is no way that it would have deformed the extractor, it would have given a FTF or the brass would have been deformed.

I agree with what Marty said...  The extractors are DESIGNED to snap over the rim as the bolt goes forward on the round.  It's not like a 1911 or controlled round feed Mauser.  So single feeding should not hurt anything - except your patience!

The guy above who asked about whether the mag was carrying the weight of the rifle may be on to something.  If your mags are poor spec or your mag catch is not adjusted properly the bolt could be dragging/hitting on the mag lips as it recoils.  But then again that wouldn't explain how the bolt could get far enough rearward to then try to load another round into the base of the unextracted case...
Were there any marks or damage from the extractor on the rims of the cases?
