One day when I do my 308 build I'm going the Mega route.

Precision type or battle rifle type?

Honestly though, hearing good things about the S&W M&P 10.

But back on topic, I'm somewhat interested in this. Never looked into building a 7.62, only buying. Will try to watch this.

My project this year is going to be a .308 AR-10. I haven't REALLY started yet, but I do have the stock an A2 rifle two tone stock with black trim in Magpul FDE, and a Mega billet charging handle. I'm going to start when I find the right CA legal matched FDE receivers. Good luck to you with your build. -W

ETA: I can't really buy a barrel yet because there are two receiver patterns. DPMS and Armalite. I think they have different barrel extensions. -W
ETA: I haven't decided which chamber I want it to have. .308 or 7.62x51. I'll have to research it a little. Decisions, decisions. -W

Doing a .308 AR right now. It's more expensive than a AR15. Go to .308AR.com forum. All they talk about is .308 ARs.

I'd go DMS pattern, more stuff coming out. There's high and low rail heights and they have some compatibility issues. Also many bolts and barrels are not compatible. So it's best to get the same companies bolt/BCG and barrel. I have a Aero Precision and will get one of their barrels and BCGs. I'm looking at a SLR rail, Troy made some good ones but seem to be discontinued. The extension tube used is AR mil-spec but you need a DPMS pattern buffer and spring. Lower parts are mostly AR mil-spec except for the pivot and takedown pin. There's a lot of little things to figure out so that you don't make mistakes and the gun will work correctly.

This is a long term project for me, the parts are hard to come by. There is some compatibility between AR10 and DPMS guns, as well as newer Bushmaster & CMMG which both now are DPMS. Noveske is AR10, Rainier makes both.

I chose this! Lots of options and features, ambi bolt release, monolithic upper option, DPMS or Armalite compatible, and AR-15 lower parts compatible.
