I wish Larue would make a mount lower than the mount for the RAS II, for mounting an Aimpoint on a railed dust cover for a FAL or on an M-14 mount...

hint hint Mark...

Yeah, Mark. I need to mount an Aimpoint on a shotgun. Save me from ARMS! BSW

Aimpoint makes it - it's called an extra wide.

They are a little hard to find, but they are as low as can be.

Here you go:

would this be for the AK w/ an Ultimak

Like others have said...the Aimpoint Xwide mount is the lowest.

I can think of two.

the first is the one that comes with the tripower. pretty low, and obviously will work on aimpoints. you should just ask around for one in the EE cause most folks get a QD mount for htem and probably leave the factory ring int he box.

other than that, when I had an HK94 and wanted the lowest possible aimpoint mount, I found this on DSA's site. You'll notice the space for the scope (inside the ring) extends down in to the area where the ring grabs the rail... this ring is about as low as you'll get any scope period. You can pop two of these on your aimpoint - I've seen folks get away with one heavy duty 30mm ring (at the range! if this is for duty fuggedaboutit). The only question is will the aimpoint objective then come in contact with your flat top?

In regards to teh ultimak rings - a) we don't know who makes them... would be good to find out first. but you'll notice they place the scope a tad higher than the DSA low ring above but a little lower than the ARMS mount.... (I've heard rumors that this is the same ring as the X-wide above, though I don't think Aimpoint makes them do they?

It really depends what you're putting it on.
For me, if I wanted good quality and low mount, I'd go for the DSA since its steel.

ETA: on further review, an ARMS 22L seems to be a good option too, didn't realize how low they were.

Perhaps like this; Arsenal SLR95-MB, ACE Stock, Ultimak, Aimpoint CompM3, Aimpoint Xwide AP10818 ring, Cherokee IR Laser. Love it but.... If I get much farther with my AR-47 project, the AK's going!

that ring does look to be the lowest without the optic touching the rail.

didn't know aimpoint made those rings, good to know. thanks.
