Other than the seller not knowing that SP1's wouldn't come out for another 13 years after his date of 1951, it looks pretty damn clean. Pictures of the condition of the BCG and minimal wear on the hammer face, it appears to have been shot little and taken well care of. Very Nice...

ETA - No reserve, this is going to be a fun one!

It's funny how these auctions go because a couple months ago I paid $3100 for a 3 digit in just as good shape.

I remember that one, it was very nice, and you did get a hell of a deal. Original and early retro Colt stuff is increasing in value faster than most areas of the collectible gun market. Hell, even more common late parts, barrels, uppers etc have pretty much doubled in value over the past few years since I've been here, even through this recent market glut.

I would have slapped down the Visa Card and dealt with the woman when the bill came in. Listen woman! I don't have to explain my purchases to you or anyone! Then proceed to sleep on the couch for a month.

WOW, Very, Very Clean looking Rifle. Did anyone notice the Dimpled Rear Sight Screw?

I also like how the Manufacturer's Rollmark on the side, has a space between the words "Firearms" & "Mfg. Co".

Just enough space so the Auto Sear Pin would not interfere with the markings.

Did the early AR15 SP1 Lower Receiver's come from the same production line that produced the Full-Auto's, minus a few operations?

I guess $3600 on the auction.

Colt used the same die to roll mark their mfg'er legend for both the SP1s and M16s. No sense in making two different tools to do the same job. Same with machining the lowers, only a couple very minor differences, the majority of operations were done on the same tooling.

This auction still has 8 days left and is just under 2 grand already. This is going to be interesting.

I went top of the mark price wise because I have a feeling this one is going to end up in a bidding war.

$2500.00
Link Posted: 1/8/2015 3:54:46 PM EST
I'd really love to see a birthday letter on that. Traditional wisdom was that there were around 2500 built in '64, but if #1,80X was born on 12/22/64, I'd expect #2128 to have been early '65. (See conversation here.)
If anyone here buys it, please spring for the $25 letter so we can add the data point to our knowledge base!

Nice rifle, regardless!

Oh...and out me down for $2,620 (plus shipping).

Really nice '64 Guess I'll play FANTASY AUCTION 'cause lord knows I can't afford to do it with real coins

I think she'll sell for $4,750.00 or equivalent in poker chips since shop is in North Vegas.
Link Posted: 1/8/2015 7:19:06 PM EST
I found another one that's is starting @3250.00 on GB
Link Posted: 1/8/2015 7:50:28 PM EST
I have a 4 digit, but it's later-1967. It has all the early features-3 prong, Edgewater buffer, etc. I thought mine was a 'decent' deal when I got it for $1500 4 years ago. Have they jumped this much in desirability? I always thought 3 digits and lower were the heavy hitters value wise, and 4 were kind of "Meh"...maybe I'm behind on the times?
Link Posted: 1/8/2015 8:30:12 PM EST
Does anyone else think both the upper & lower has been refinished. Very nice gun no doubt but a few nicks, etc that looks like they were refinished over. Also the very light visibility of the Colt roll mark but finish not worn over it (handling wear of the roll mark doesn't match finish)

My Guess $2375 if not already called.

when things get on GB you can expect to pay more that its really worth that is were you sell to get rich But if you want it and need it you pay the fiddler There is no fare market value on that site its go for the killer and then add the fifteen min rule to get every penny ya can, But that just makes my 4 digit worth more by driving up the price

Gunner is correct I was roughly $1500.00 over. Winner receives a Free Retro Patch on my Dime.

Reading is fundamental. I saw this post from you (and didn't realize you were just adding shipping to OlGunner's guess), but totally missed Circuit's post right below it and rarecat's on page one.

I'll go back to my room now.

how many did you order? There's a few members that missed out and I only wanted 2 OD Green ones. If any of you ordered like 5-6 maybe you could be kind enough to sell one to a left out member?

I ordered one, no need to send another as a prize. Spread the wealth to someone who missed out. Thanks!
