Your barrel has a chrome chamber but not a chromed bore. During that time, the demand for AR parts was at the highest it's ever been due to the Y2K scare and the then-imminent PRK AR and AK ban. Also, the M4 profile first began to be very popular in 98, and during 99, EVERYONE wanted one.
So, Colt took a bunch of 1:9 16" HBARs they had in stock and reprofiled them into M4 profile. That's where your rifle came from, and why you don't see Colt 1:9 M4 barrels anymore. -Troy |

Ugh, so no chrome then. That stinks...
Hmmm...just the excuse I needed to consider one of the 1/7 16" Bushmaster barrels that were to be custom ordered. :) |

Take a look at the muzzle, after thoroughly cleaning it, and u should see a little ring of chrome around the bore, if chrome lined. The 16" Hbar 1/9 for the 6721 was chrome lined bore and if that M4 barrel was made from one of those blanks then it would be all chrome lined. On the older Colt barrels the chrome ring at the muzzle was more pronounced. On later barrels it is less so.

Colt still makes the 16" M-4 barrels in 1/9 for the model 6922. It's an LE only rifle and they only make them in limited runs. I don't know if the barrel would be availible as a part for the general public, but it never hurts to call and ask.

I went back and looked at my barrel's markings. It's marked "C MP 1/9 NATO".
I was under the impression that the MP meant that it was magnetic particle tested. Does "C" mean Colt or "Chrome"? My Bushmaster barrel says "BM MP 1/9", and I know that it's chromed. |

My 1x7 Colts are marked C MP and they definitely have a chrome bore. I recently sold a Colt 1x9 HBAR also marked C MP and that too was chromed.
Only way to tell is to look at the muzzle end. |
