I can't believe it. The Piston head of the piston broke off while I was firing today, and now the piston isn't long enough to bush the bolt back. This has been a retarded week.

I've never had a gas tube break...

Damned right they do.  But I suspect this is all made up because everyone knows that the piston design will run forever!!

I saw a broken Ares at a gun shop two weeks ago. I am not sold on the benefits of the piston yet.  The Future Weapons demo of the HK was nice, but I'll probably never have a full auto anyway.

Ive always thought that the pushrod seemed like the weak link in the system but this is the first time ive heard it happening. Never had a problem with mine but they do sell replacements, that is if nothing else went wrong to cause the break.

Please more info and pics.

Of course I did, do think I'm a fucking retard or something? I think I understood your question the first time you typed it. POF is replacing the part, obviously. Here are pics. The round part of the piston op rod broke off while firing, causing the weapon to short stroke. The round disc on the end of the op rod is nowhere to be found. Round count on the upper is 3200 rounds, mostly Wolf 62 gr or Wolf 55 gr. Typical plinking ammo.

Just one correction. It wasn't the piston that broke. It was the push rod.

Don't mind TopCrest.  He's a sympathizer to the EVIL manufacturors!

I don't think anyone here doubts that POF will make it right.

Looks like a taper design would work better , instead of the sharp transistion to the smaller rod ???? Beuller ????

Anyway, the point of this thread was to let you guys see a major malfunction that ocurred with my POF upper's piston system. I was very surprised by this part busting.
I am boxing up the part after I post this, I have already been assured by CHris at POF that I'll be getting a new push rod shortly, and everybody is happy. This incident is the first time I've heard of a problem of this type with the POF upper, that is why I posted up here.
