I took my new Stag Arms M4 style upper out yesterday. The lower has a Stag milspec 6 position stock with the H2 buffer.  It ran 100% on American Eagle AE223 ammo. However, I ran into some short stroking on Wolf ammo . A couple per magazine.

Can the H2 buffer cause shortstoking because of the extra weight?  It seems quasi-logical that you would need more gas to push a heavier buffer?

(My mags are US GI, the gas rings are staggered, the upper was cleaned and properly lubed prior to shooting, ect...)

you are correct.

but to narrow it down to the buffer i would check for:

loose carrier key
loose front sight base
obstructed gas tube
bolt carrier moves freely in upper
etc...

but wolf is underpowered stuff

Yes, it could cause short stroking, especially when using Wolf ammo (which is underpowered.)

EDIT: Tom, you beat me by about a half a minute.

Bravo Company, thanks for the reply.  I bought the M4 upper, mil spec stock, and buffer from you!  The person on the phone recommended the H2 buffer.  For what it is worth, I couldn't have been happier with the help I got on the phone, the fast shipping, and the price.  The Stag upper's quality was beyond my expectations.  I am taking the gun out again today.  If the gun still short strokes, would you exchange my buffer for a "standard version?".  Even though Wolf is not the best ammo, my Mini-14 shoots it 100% reliably.  I am a little concerned about the short stroking.

Thanks,
Dave

Thanks for your help.  I was able to find one I could borrow on Friday.  I will give it a try and then call you.  I appreciate your willingness to help.
