How does one get started in the kit building hobby? Which videos, books, or required tools would you recommend?

I didn't need anything more than a kit, a stripped lower receiver, and the assembly instructions from this site.  As far as tools go, all I really needed was a couple punches, a plastic mallet and a screwdriver.

Follow the instructions carefully, make sure your rifle passes the function checks at each step, and you should have a working rifle in a couple hours.
