COLT all the way, it is extremely accurate and consistant shooting the Hornady TAP 75 gr.

Or you could have gotten a CMMG barrel of better quality for the same price in 1:7 and in whatever lenght you want.
Why people spend so much just for the Colt name is beyond me |

Let the fanboys keep buying Colts. The more they keep buying colts, the higher they will get and less price/demand for other rifles that are just as good a quality. They will keep ripping themselves off for the colt name.

Bushmaster does make them. My Bushy 1/7, 20" govt profile barrel should be at my doorstep in a couple days (ordered Last Sunday). They also have them in other lengths. Not sure which... you have to ask them. |

When is it gonna be all good? i'll never understand all of this "mine is better than yours" talk. differences between most of the major brands is so small and nitpicky. they have all put one out that shouldn't made it out of the house Quality wise. but most are to the high standards that all of us AR.Comers expect. Brothers in Arms we are. let's hook up on the range and blast a few caps!

Umm, I agree that 1:7 twist rifling is probably the best choice, but Bushmaster, Bravo Company, CMMG, LMT, Sabre Arms and probably several others also offer 1:7 twist rate barrels.

keep in mind that if your a varmint hunter, the 1/7 isnt preferrable. I have a bushy 1/9 and it eats 45gr and 50gr varmint rounds all day and does so quite accurately. Now if your hunting 2 legged varmints, i could see the use for 1/7

Did you bother to do any research as to who makes 1/7 barrels? If you did you would know that 1/7 isnt exclusive to colt and bushmaster does in fact make 1/7. I just recently purchased my first Colt, 1/7 was a factor, but it wasnt the end all be all |

On my rifle: Panther Arms(DPMS)- chrome lined 5.56 chambered , 1in7" twist AP4 style barrel. |

I have a Colt 20in A2 Gov. profile 1/7 - only got this BCM didnt come out with theirs hen I bought this FN 20in A2 Gov profile 1/7 - Ditto to above Colt A1 20in 1/12 - m16 clone another Colt A1 20in 1/12 - m16A1 clone Bushy 14.5 Gov.profile 1/7 I may get CMMG 14.5" 1/7 M4A1 SOCOM barrel for M4 Clone - I AINT paying Colt premium  CMMG 14.5" 1/7 Lightweight barrel for a CAR clone - I aint paying Colt premium  From theses top notch manufacturers the barrels are equal...for petes sake its a semi auto gun, not a bolt gun for precision I have a .243WSSM bolt gun

Which is why I would never buy a Bushmaster.  There are other options out there that get me what I want. While I may never buy a Colt rifle, but I got no shame in using a Colt BBl or BCG. The only thing keeping me from buying a Colt is the non-std FCG. |

Which makes little sense, since large-pin FCG are available from at least two sources (Colt and Bushmaster). Not to mention, what is the last time your FCG 'broke' and needed to be replaced? |

I am sure that you are aware that 1:8 is perfectly suited for 75 and 80 grain bullets. I would hope that you had more of a reason than just a 1:7 twist to pay the premium for your Colt. |

Hi new here but not new to AR's.
I hate to make a first post her in a threasd which seems to have a bit of contention but I was browsing through this forum and the thread title caught my eye. I'll just say that I'm a Colt fan for one reason. I seem to be jinxed* when it comes to non-Colt AR's. I won't get into brands but I've had major issues with a four others than Colt. I've also owned 3 Colts, 2 currently, that have given me zero problems. An AR-15A2 and two Colt 6400c M-4 Sporters. Not meaning to flame anyone but the "Milspec Parts" issue is a joke. If I had true milspec parts I'd have an M-16. But back to the main topic. I've had good accuracy with my 1/7 barrels though I've never gone down below 55gr ammo. And if I went to build my own AR myself I'd probably end up using a mix of different brand mostly non-Colt parts deopending on the configuratrion I wanted. *-I also seem to be that way with S&W N-Frameshem |

Colt sells some 1/9 too. The LE6721, for example. I have no need to shoot the heavy nonsense, so I bought that model. |

Yeah, my 6721 Rawks, and If you check Colts Accurized 6724....it is 1/9 also-
Hmm, wonder why they did that? Oh, and has anyone checked the price on 68+gr. ammo? local is $15.00/20rds. for TAP (no thanks) I'll stick with xm193, wwb, federal HP wolf |

I've seen new colt (issued M4) and new barrels from just about every Mfg (at shows, from friends, etc.) CMMG IMO seem to have the better finish on the outside and what seems to be better, sharfer rifling, also the gas port on all the CMMG barrels that I've seen are drilled into the grooves, not into the lans live MOST of the others. I am sure other specialized Mfg's and Bbls have gas ports drilled into the grooves, but these seem to be the exception. From what I see my standord CMMG M4 SOCOM Barrel is more accurate than my Issue M4 (colt barrel) Of course this is Just my opinion. |

FCGs fail all the time, but it so happens that Colt makes the best FCG around, and Ken Elmore makes it better. So if you want the best FCG around, get a Colt from Ken Elmore... and tell him that ARFcom sent you. |

99% of civilian AR owners have no need for milspec. That being said, I bought a BMP 1/7 M4 14.5 barrel... because I want to shoot the heavier bullets. |

That's not the point. How many source are std. FCG available from? Dozens. There's lots of std FCG parts at the local gunshows. There's usually only 2 or three .170" trigger parts and they're usually RRA NM triggers and nothing more. If the .170" FCG parts are so great, how come Colt is the only one that puts them in their rifles, while over a dozen major manufacturers equip their rifles with the mil-spec pin diameter of .154"? OK, so order a spare FCG and keep it around. They cost the same as any other FCG. I'm not going to claim that the .170 FCG is "great", only that it's not an issue. If you're one of those people who wants a .155 FCG because you fantasize about converting your rifle to FA when TSHTF, I don't know what to fell you. I would much rather buy .170 spares than have to get a new receiver extension, new front sight post, etc to replace parts that should have been made right to begin with. |

i originally started off with a bushmaster, and i quickly dislike the finish and quality and tolerances of the rifle. i didn't like how some magazines wouldn't fit. later on i got another bushy, and still didn't like that and sold that. now i have a cmmg that i built over time. i love this rifle. its beautiful. finish is excellent, its a 1/7, and i dunno quality is just great, i really appreciate what cmmg is putting out. only thing i kinda regret is purchasing the 16" instead of the 20" but still a great product. i'd say i like it more than the colts i've toyed with.
