Hello all,

(1) Can someone explain to me the benefits of a mid-length gas tube on a 16 inch barrel versus a carbine length gas tube?

(2) Is a mid-length gas tube a better compromise for barrels 16 to 18 inches and would that leave the carbine gas tube for 141/2 barrels only?

I’m trying to learn about different gas systems for different barrel lengths and what would work the best.

Thanks in advance

Basically the Midlength is a trade off for something closer to a rifle length system. The carbine system is harsh on the action (extraction/ejection, etc) and has been prone to cycling problems. These problems have been solved by adding extras (Blk extractor buffers and heavier springs, D-Fender/Crane o-rings). The system is still harder on parts than the rifle length. In order to maintain short length and ensure better/smoother/more reliable cycling, then the midlength comes into play.

Regardless, you can make a short barreled carbine gas system run reliably. Pick which ever you want.

try a search--lots of topics pertaining to the "CAR vs Mid" systems

basically: the CAR is more 'violent' in its functioning; the mid is basically the best for a 14.5-18" bbls
