I am getting a gas leak with my Olympic AR. When I shoot I can feel a puff of gas come back (I think around the charging handle) and hit me in the face. It is very distracting to have gas being blown into your eyes. The rifle is still functioning fine but it is bothering me. I checked the gas rings and the gaps are not lined up. I don't know what else to check.
Anyone have any idea where to start looking to fix this?
Thank you.

you can get a PRI gas buster charging handle.  stops the gas from shooting in your face.

costs about 80-90 bucks though.  seems like it would solve your problem.

I have also read that some highpower shooters load up the charging latch slot in the upper with grease to prevent this from happening.  A much cheaper cure if you ask me.

If I did that I'd be afraid I'd get a gas powered shot of grease in the face!z

$90 is expensive to cure this.
I put about 1000 rounds through this rifle before I began noticing this problem. From what I have read, Olympic is known to be on the lower side of the QC scale. I am wondering if just replacing the charging handle might work. There is a little play in it when the action is closed and I am thinking that if I could make this go away I might make the gas that is hitting me in the face go away with it.
Is this a problem that occurs with a lot of AR's? I don't remember ever feeling gas from any of the M-16's I shot in the Army. Apparently it is noteworthy if someone is going to the trouble to make a $90 part to eliminate it.
I really like the rifle but the damn thing is turning into a black hole for money. I keep finding more stuff to have to fix on it.

Try slicone RTV sealer on the charging handle.  Check out this Link.

XM855PD kept sending gas into my face and it burned my eyes (ammonia?)
Wolf steel cased ammo, OTOH, didn't send noxious fumes into my face.

Zediker talks about doing this in his book.

I've done My rifles like this and it works well.

I sprayed the charging handle with brake cleaner,  let it dry,  and lubed up the receiver before applying the RVT.

I tried the RTV and it didn't work. I continued to get gas near my eyes (even with safety glasses).

Another thing you might want to look at is your fireing pin tip.

Check it for pits, if it has one replace and try again.

I had to do that last year at Camp Perry.
