for the builders

anybody know off the top of your head if the front and rear take down detent pin springs are the same length.

I have a project going on and I'm using up a bunch of parts and pieces I have been stashing away.

The rear take down detent spring worked perfect - the front one won't hardly let the detent pin drop down in the "hole" - I suppose I can just cut a spring if the "hole" was not reamed out enough - wouldn't it be better to do that than ream out the detent pin hole and possibly screw up? Maybe I dont have the right spring to begin with....thoughts?

gracias - I'll have to assume the reamer didn't ream the front pin hold deep enough. I will just cut one off and hope I don't shorten it too much. Guess it cant hurt anything...

The pivot pin detent shouldn't "drop down in the hole." The spring should be sticking out and need to be compressed in order to get the pivot pin into its hole in the lower receiver.

Thanks M4

yeah - the spring is sticking up for sure. I can not compress it far enough to get the pin in enough to install the take down pin.

Holding the detent pin with forceps (I think that's what they are called) and then using a punch to push the pin and depress the spring the pin is still exposed by about half it's length. No way to get the take down pin past it.

Not really a big deal - I dont think taking a bit off the spring will hurt. If I remove too much I can just spring the spring a bit and get it right. .....I hope

Well, if you're getting full spring compression and still can't get the detent down into the hole, then I guess that you really dont have any choice other than taking a couple of coils off the spring.

You might check to see if there is some type of debris down in the hole. Many builders will run a drill bit down in every hole in the lower to clean them out.

By hand, I might add.
