What's out there in the way of vented, carbine-length free float tubes? I'm talking about a smooth tube only as I have no desire to hang most of my wordly possesions on the gun.

I have a solid aluminum tube on there now but gosh dang it does get hot when my trigger finger gets enthusiastic.

Anybody have any experience with the carbon fiber tubes?

Thanks in advance.

I'd definitely try a carbon fiber tube if you don't want rails.  Most 'vented' tubes are not vented enough to make much of a difference.

I have done only one extended, rapid fire session with this rifle and the tube was HOT - to the point where I could hardly hold the handguard.  The barrel is a gov't profile, midlength.  This makes me think that a carbon fiber tube may not be the answer you need.  Maybe a solid carbon fiber tube with less metal at the barrel nut area would be different.  YMMV.

I like the Armalite National Match fiberglass handguard tube.   Very strong and no thrills.  I too don't want to put everything but the kitchen sink on my rifle.  Just a scope, bipod,  and shoot it for what I need right now.
