OK, not completely new to the black rifle between the military and other shooting opportunities. I'm looking to buy one to get into possibly competition and was looking at either a DPMS or a Bushmaster. Thoughts, opinions and advice would be welcome. Thanks!!!

What type of competition are you interested in? I'd ask in the Competition section of the Training Forum (scroll down) for some advice/recommendations. Also, taking a look at the tacked threads at the top of the technical AR15 forums is good. I know you're not new to the scene, and have probably already seen these, but I found the threads/links below to be very informative/consice sources of info/data/opinion:

So you want to buy an AR-15, huh?

Bushmasters are fine for a beginner's gun. Personally (based of personal experience) I would get a CMMG, however.

I was looking at going into High power/president's cup type of matches. The Bushy DCM rifle is the type/style I'm looking at...

Looked into RRA? Their NM lower (with RRA 2-Stage trigger) is one of the best values running for a match lower.

As for the upper - any DCM arrangement will do - RRA, Bushy, Armalite, DPMS, or practically any quality 20" rifle upper.
