Finished my first build about a week ago. It was so much easier than I thought it would be and all the guides and walk-throughs on here were a tremendous help. I got some good deals on most everything and the total bill ran around $575. I don't know who makes the upper (bought on GunBroker), but it's a Superior Lower, Delton bolt carrier assembly, generic stock, and JP Ent. trigger spring. Haven't made it out to the range yet but took it out to a creek a few miles out of town to make sure everything worked. First shot didn't go as I slowly let the bolt back down and my heart sank. Slammed it the second time and BAM! I was giggling like a school girl. Had the girlfriend take some shoots too and she thought it was too loud.

Take care.

Congrats on taking the old lady shooting. I get mine out every once in a while too. It sure is nice to take them along so you don't have to hear all the nagging about where you've been.

Do you think that if I built an AR for my wife as a birthday present she would let me keep it?

The answer is unknown at this time.... But by all means, let us know how it works out.

Can you use the peep sight with that scope mount?

The scope is a 3x9x42mm BEC illuminated. I'm probably going to go with a Leaper 4x as I'm building a varminter that will get a Nikon Monarch.
I can still use the peep sights, it's tight but you can see clearly through them with a little room to spare.
And yes, she is a sweetie and it's a lot of fun to have her shooting with me.

Take care.
