Hi People, So i'm looking at building an AR that will use the 7.62X39 caliber with select fire capability. Before i get into too much detail i will say that I really don't have a whole lot of experience with building up firearms so if i make a technical error please don't rain on my parade. Alot of my buddies have been telling me custom builds are the only way to go and really they will be the one's teaching me what to do as they put all of my parts together to make it work. Pretty much, If ya'll will put up with it for a little bit, I'm looking to see what name brand components would be best for a build like this and I figured this is the best source to get it from.

Here's the specs that I've come up with so far.

7.62X39 Caliber––Select fire single shot / 3 round burst.
18 Inch Barrel––not sure if im going with a bull barrel or not yet.
Flat top Receiver
Front and rear Flip down sights
Chrome plated Bolt Carrier ––Recommended from my friend who will be assembling 95% of the gun.
Chrome firing pin
Free Floating foregrip?
Hogue pistol grip
DPMS lower

The Lower receiver and Upper receivers will be built piece by piece as the money becomes available. Any input would be much appreciated.

Thanks,
Tom

If your doing a 7.62x39 just remember that most mags for that dont feed well. aI hear that CMMG makes a good one but thats about all i know of this variant.

I couldnt get past the first line in the specs.

As others have said, I wouldnt go with a 7.62x39 for your first.  5.56 or 6.8 if you want a bigge hole.

More importantly, I assume you have the paperwork for this 3 round burst you are wanting????

Yes, I will have the paperwork and stamp for the select fire. of which, the complete build is a little up in the air. I was told today by my LT. that if im going to use the 7.62 round i might as well go with the big round....said it would be more of a precision shooter than anything so the select fire would be out if i end up doing that. but from what i've seen tonight after work what he was telling me about prices isnt' really a reality there. lol will probably stick with the 7.62X39 but still doing some research on it.

Ok.  To have a full auto or select fire rifle, you have the following options:

A.)  If you work for a LE agency, your department can purchase a full auto registered lower.  The firearm will belong to the department, not you.

B.)  Purchase a registered receiver ($10,000 or more), fill out a form 4 and wait for BATFE approval.

C.)  Purchase a registered Drop In Auto Sear ($12k or more) fill out Form 4 and wait for BATFE approval.

D.)  Purchase a registered Lightning Link ($7-8k or more) fill out Form 4 and wait for BATFE approval.

You can not make a new full auto or select fire firearm.  No full auto weapons made and registered after May 1986 are available for civilian possession.  LE status does not exempt anyone from these laws.

That being said, if you are wanting a 7.62x39, I would take a look at the offerings from ar15performance.com, they have the bugs worked out of the 7.62x39 ARs.
