Just finished my late 604, Thanks to John for all the Parkerizing, and I shot the Moly Resin. I didn't notice the pins have dimples in them and will replace them" />" />" />

Not completely Retro, but certainly retro-esque. (More so than slapping an A1 grip on a modern AR and calling it retro.)
The upper is a Colt upper and flat slip ring. I can't remember if the hand guards are Colt, too. The barrel is a Daniel Defense 12.5" lightweight barrel with an F-marked front sight base. The flash hider is of the A1 style.
This was going to be the base for a XM177E2 build, but I'm reluctant to pin & weld the Griffin Armament moderator on as there have been reports of cracking, so it stays a pistol for now.

My Budget xm177 is complete.  I know the barrel isn’t correct and it’s an A2 lower.  But man is it fun to shoot!
I think I have less than 400 in this build.   The last piece showed up last week; a Brownells stock.   For only 19 bucks it looks pretty good
with a liberal application of satin Krylon.

Retro-esque/KISS carbine.  It has Brownells retro furniture, CMMG 14.5" 1/7 twist midlength pencil barrel with pinned and welded Phantom FS.

Retro-esque XM177-style build, current status. I'll eventually source a more correct barrel assembly and an aluminum stock instead of the Fiberlite.

Here is my 601 in progress. It's a 604 upper on a Brownells 601 slabside lower. It's got a triangular charging handle, grenade spring, and duckbill FH, and chrome slickside BCG. The furniture is the same as the Brownells stuff, but I got it from JSE - I think I'm going to paint it brown, then Testors green. I've got to find a bunch of small retro parts, and I've got a gray slip ring I need to install. For a while I'm just going to enjoy it like it is!!

Are you sure that’s Brownells furniture? It looks a lot darker and way better than the zombie green color they mixed up.

Yep - I went out to my shop and still have the boxes they came in.

They do look fairly good, but I’m still gonna paint them brown with tan speckles, then spray with the green Testors 1910.

My latest retro build that began with an SP1 upper. I had the Colt barrel and furniture. Assembled on a Brownells A1 lower. I have enough Colt furniture for another A1ish build.

Top Pic: XM16E1, 60’s 604 built from a kit, Gau5/A, Commando

604 - Built from a kit I bought recently, they were part of the recent Puerto Rico hwy patrol import

Below, a commando I built, and XM16E1 - Uppers are original anodizing... the timeline of the parts is a little mixed up. There is a barrel shortage and square forge uppers are hard to find...

Pair of XM16E1 clones, one pretty nice and the other is pretty used looking.  Both were pieced together, both have the early contour under the port door.  Newer looking one has a "M VP" barrel, late gas tube and drain hole hand guards.  More used one has worn no drain hole hand guards, a "MP C" Colt barrel, and early bend gas tube with vise grip marks left by a previous technician.  Nicer clone has a current production retro lower, more worn clone has an old Palmetto State Armory billet lower.  LPK parts are a random mix, modern buffers, type D stocks, buffer tubes are both USGI with the nicer clone having a more modern part while the worn one has a 601 style with wrench flats filed in and a beautiful gold tint that works well with the rest of the rifle.  Both have Colt chrome XM16E1 carriers with chrome Colt bolts and modern firing pin etc.  Try to ignore the "tick" selector in the nicer condition clone.  Sadly the nicer condition upper receiver was owned by "Bubba" and has a crack down the carry handle valley where a scope was over-tightened.

Just picked up from a retro forum local. Troy XM177E2 lower with refinished Colt 604 upper. I do want to replace the upper with a correct A1 and not a fan of the ARMASPEC Stealth Recoil Spring inside, need a standard mil-spec buffer. I AM loving the 2 position tube and aluminum stock.
