hop
I do have a question though. I could have gotten an Armalite with the foreend that has the 4 sided rails (not sure what that is called, Im new at this), but it was about $200-$300 more. I looked them over and I liked the shorter barrel the Bushmaster had vs the Armalite. Did I make a mistake by going with the Bushmaster ?

The safe is a Liberty Franklin series, and I have about $1,700 in the pair.

imo bushmaster is one of the better ones out there.

you can get railed freefloats for the bushmaster for around 300 so dont see where you would have lost out.

welcome to the site and read up

Great choice on the Bushmaster M4A3 - especially so for a 1st AR15.

that has been a very popular choice among members here

Welcome aboard!!

Thanks for the welcome.

I can already see these guns are addictive. I went with the A3 upper incase I decided to mount something like an ACOG on top of it. Now I realize that won't work because the front sight would be in the way..

Also, for some odd reason, I really want a CMAG for it.

isn't it a patrolman's carbine???

get the acog, front sight won't be in the way.

I dont know about the Patrolmans Carbine, how do you tell the difference ?

My barrel gets smaller after the front sight, I "think" thats where the M203 attaches.
The barrel is about 17" overall, it is 16" to the spot just before the slots start on the flash suppressor. Does that help ?

By the way, how can I lighten the trigger up a tad ?

Nice rifle. I love, Love ,LOVE my Bushmaster. You made a great choice. You may want to look at Eotech and aimpoint for optics aswell. You can also get a flip down front sight.

Yeah, and do NOT worry about the front sight.

In a 4x ACOG, it barely shows up.  The scope basically focusses around the sight.

Nope, note the flash hider.  That Patrolman's Carbine is a 16" with A2 flash suppressor, this appears to be a 14.5 with an Izzy.

Out of curiousity, I got out the Bushmaster catalog to look at overall lenght.

With retracted stock:
Patrolman's Carbine is 32.5"
M4 is 30.875"

I measured mine, and it is indeed 32.5" , so I guess I didn't get the M4 I wanted afterall. I'll take some close up pics of the flash hider later. Still it's a fun gun, and I dont really notice the extra barrel length.

bushmaster updated their site so there's new products and price increases that differ from the catalog, i got their 2005 v.2 catalog. also they seem to have dropped the "patrolman's" name (not the rifle).
i'm looking at a BM M4-A3 myself as my first AR... still waiting for my friggin' tax check to get here though.

You are correct. I went to their site, and the one that is identicle to mine is the 16in M4 Type Carbine with Bird Cage Flash Suppressor

M4 Type Carbine with Bird Cage Flash Suppressor

the very model i wanna get ... 'cause most "class III barrel extensions"  use the bird cage as a base for mounting. if memory serves... the BM M4 with the "izzy" is only 14.5 in. and the "izzy" permanently pinned makes it the "legal" 16 in. and if you got that model and had a gunsmith put a bird cage on it, it would come up just short of 16 in. making it a SBR.
(i need to go check the mail to see if the damnable check is here)

My bushmaster is similar to the model shown, except it has a mini-y comp brake on it.   I love bushmasterh.gif

I'm finally going to get a chance to zero my sights in tomorrow, can't wait.

So do I set it on the 6/3 mark, or the Z mark for zeroing at 25 meters ?
