So after what seems like forever saving little by little, and buying a few small things in between, I'm finally picking up my first AR. Going with a BCM 16" Mid-Length but just having a hard time deciding what rail to go with at the last minute of course. I know I want to have a flip front sight and was fairly set on the Daniel's Defense 10" Lite Mid-X Extended rail.. but now it seems as if Bravo is out of that rail- and I really dont want to wait anymore. I guess I'm hoping they'll have another DD 10" rail hiding in back somewhere, but with the way my luck goes, probably not- so any suggestions? I just think the 12" DD Lite rail is too much rail for me.. maybe a Troy?

Thanks and I cant wait to post some pics!!

check out the VTAC TRX or PRI tubes. you add rail sections where you need them. my next upper will have one of those 2.

You aught to go with a 12".  The 10"? will not fully voer the gas block.  But thats ok to if thats what you want.  I too suggest a larue rail.

Ask yourself:  do I really need a lot of rail-estate?

If no, then consider one of the tubes mentioned above.  When (not if) I do it all over again, its gonna be a tube with just a couple of attached rail sections.

Thanks everyone- I'm lucky enough that I get to go to BCM and see everything first hand, so I'll check it all out- and maybe I will decide to go with the 12"?

I'm doing a BCM middy soon and I think I've decided on the LaRue rail and fixed front sight

+1 This combo is effective and aesthetically appealing, IMO.

I have thought about just going with a fixed front sight, but I do plan on adding an Aimpoint  very soon (hopefully after the holidays) and kinda like the look of the flip front sight. Hmmm? Such a hard decision...

I have a VTAC TRX 13" rail and love it.

I like a fixed front through a DD 12" FSP rail, flip up rear and a lower 1/3 cowitnessed Aimpoint.

Holiday project for me is a midlength BFH. Going to decide on a 9" Larue or 9" DD Omega soon. Front sight will be PRI gas block/flip.

Would like to go larue, but leaning towards Omega for weight savings, not having to travel with the tools, and speed of install (less time working on upper, more time enjoying sunny weather and shooting).

Ok- Got my baby! Went with a BCM 16" Mid-length with Daniels Defense 12" Lite Rail, BCM Flip sights(HK style front), BCM lower, Magpul ACS Stock, AFG2, Ergo grip and a Vickers combat sling. Now just need the Aimpoint ML2 and a Surefire tac light and she's all set!!

Will get some pics up as soon as I can figure that part out.. not as easy as I thought it would be....

I'd change your front sight to M4 style.  HK style with a fixed rear and adjustible front sight post is about the dumbest thing ever.  Real HK sights use an elevation adjustible rear and a fixed front hood and post.  The idea is a circle on circle aiming method.  On AR sights, in this case, the elevation can only be adjusted by raising or lowering the front sight post.  So the top of the post may not be centered in the fron hood.  In which case the circle on circle principle is useless and only makes things slower as your brain will want to line the two circle up and then you will have to adjust to get the post centered.

HK style flip ups look cool but they are not that great.  If you want HK style sights get fixed Diopters or stick with an M4 style front.  Just a suggestion from someone who has had them before.  Otherwise the rifle sounds awesome.
